BERNICE VANITA BOYKINS

August 2, 1937 ~ January 26, 2022

BERNICE VANITA BOYKINS, aka “RED” was the only daughter, and the second youngest child born, on August 2, 1937, to the late Randle Jackson Sr. and late Irene Dibble Jackson. Her brothers are the late Timothy Jackson Sr., living Randle Jackson Jr., late Earnest Jackson, late/ youngest James Jackson Sr. They grew up in Temple, Texas. They attend Dunbar High School, where she played the clarinet in the band. Bernice loved attending the Dunbar High School Reunions. They knew her as “Red” in Temple, Texas. She was a devoted wife of the late Sergeant First Class, Retired, Booker T. Boykins Sr.

BERNICE VANITA BOYKINS was a Christian woman, accepted Jesus as a child, later became a, faithful, member of Macedonia Baptist Church, 963 SW 40th St., San Antonio, Tx. 78237, for many years. She was a good mother, a homemaker, taking care of her family, husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, too. She loved to cook, bake, sing, travel, help others, play bingo, and she was a giver. She gave of her time in the community, at neighbor’s homes, in the schools her children attended, at PTO/PTA meetings, volunteering her time and services in the community, or on several military bases. She would go visit people (family, friends, or strangers). She shampooed hair, pressed hair, combed hair, braided hair, and would take meals to people who were sick, sick and shut in, disabled, in the nursing home, or at their homes. She was a giver and she gave, gave, and gave some more. She loved travelling and would get on the road to go see relatives and friends. She loved to check on them, including us, her family. She never met a stranger, that she would not talk to or help. She loved and cared about people, their well-being, and always had a gift to give them, one by one. She worked & retired at AAFES (Base Exchange-BX).

BERNICE VANITA BOYKINS departed this life, here on God’s Earth, on January 26, 2022, Wednesday, at 12:42 p.m. She leaves to cherish her brother, Randle Jackson, her children: Roger (Brenda) Boykins, Debra (Terry) Russell, Booker Boykins Jr., Evon Boykins, Charles Boykins, Tracye (Marlin) Richardson, Joseph (Sharon) Boykins, and Cheryl (Michael Sr.) Ham.

Also, her grandchildren: Christopher (Johnetta) Boykins, Katrina (Kendrick) Harris, Bridgette (Kendal) Haynes, Travon Boykins, Cherita (Kody) Book, Gabrielle Boykins, Mychal Boykins, Charles Boykins, Joseph (Tiffany) Boykins, Tralynn (Bryan Sr.) Victorian, Paige (Joseph) Sheffield, Roger Boykins II, Cherrelle Richardson, Michael Ham II, Deana Richardson, and Isaiah Ham. And a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, relatives, cousins, sisters in laws, nieces, nephews and way more.

Evon BOYKINS has been my bestie since we were teens & now adults, my son Trevor & I always come to visit her at Christmas time & her face would light up when Trevor would say hi, & hug her tight! I love visiting her during holidays & I remember when I’d go over during our teen years! Mama B is the most kindest, loving, caring person to others & always took time to give to others, help ppl. Thas where Evon aka Vonnie gets her likeness from her beautiful mama, I call her beautiful green eyes Mama B! ️ She meant so much to me in many ways. My son & I will truly miss her & well always cherish our memories with u & love u always my sweet MamMa B! ️ ((XOX))

  2. I love and miss you, Queen Diva Mother Bernice V. Boykins! Thank you, mother, for training us up in God, going to church, helping others (family, friends, and strangers), and giving giving giving, plus quality time spent with many, who were at their homes, in their neighborhoods, or sick and shut in, in the hospital, nursing homes, skilled nursing facilities, or wherever! You showed us how wo live, give back in our communities, schools, and to others (known or unknown). Thank you! We will see you in HEAVEN with GOD, HIS ANGELS, DADDY, many loved ones, family, friends, and all there.

  3. My parents loved to run into Bernice and her husband at Lackland AFB. They became friends as Booker and I worked together. Ive had the pleasure of meeting many of the Boykins family members through the years. They will truly pass on the giving and kindness that you exemplified! You are now with God Miss Bernice.

  4. Sending all my love to the Boykins Family. You all have been a part of my life since high school. We all will miss her dearly, but Mychal is missing her most. He loved his grandmother and it was an honor caring fir her those 3 years. She was hard working and loving. May God give you all peace and comfort.

  5. Condolences to The Boykins Family. Mrs. Boykins was one of the kindest people you could ever met and known. She didn’t know a stranger. She was always willing to give a hand if needed. She will truly be missed by many. Rest Easy Queen Bernice. It was a joy having you here making the world a kinder place to tolerate. You were truly an angel on earth.
