ARLENE BODINE

October 27, 1948 ~ September 2, 2021

Arlene Carol Bodine, 72, of Universal City, Texas passed away September 2, 2021 in Universal City. Arlene was born October 27, 1948 in Fort Belknap, Montana to Ned and Theresa Mary (Houle) Sun Child members of Rocky Boy Indian Reservation, Box Elder, Montana, she was the great granddaughter of Chief Kenawash the last Chief of the Chippewa Cree Tribe of Rocky Boy. She was raised on Rocky Boy and in Great Falls with her grand parents Roy and Cecelia (Kenawash) Houle, and later returned to Rocky Boy. Her Indian name translated in English “Little Heat Waves” given by her father’s relatives who resided in Helena, Montana.

She married Vaughn Bodine in May 1971, Newark, New Jersey, being a Air Force wife, traveled with him during his career, she was a voluntary elementary school tutor in California, earned high school diploma in New Mexico, volunteer in the homeless shelter in San Antonio, her own child care center for a few years, a care giver for the elderly, collected Native American dolls, liked playing bingo, family dinners, adored her grand children, taught them traditional ways, and spoke language.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Clyde R Sun Child. 

Arlene is survived by her husband Vaughn Bodine; children, Michael Roy (Nancy) Sun Child, William Thomas (Melissa) Winfield III, and Vaughn Bodine II, Jr; brothers, Roy Sun Child, Lloyd (Gay) Sun Child, and Daryl, Dallas (Pam), Darin (Marva) Sun Child, and Larry Bernard; sisters, Doreen and Cindy Sun Child, Kimberly (Sun Child) Patacsil, and Violet Dawn Sun Child, and Margaret, Christine, and Brenda Bernard; sister in-law Carolyn (Bodine) Kyer; niece Milly Sun Child; granddaughter Cecilia Arlene Ramos SunChild; grandson Marcell Vaughn Bodine, Keith and Kerry Winfield; and five great-grand children, and a host of relatives and friends.
