Annie Louise Cox Robinson, born on January 11, 1933, in Catherine, Alabama, she was the eldest of nine children born to John and Phyllis Cox. She departed this life on Saturday, July 12, 2025, surrounded by her family, leaving behind a lasting legacy of faith, service, and strength.
At the age of 11, Annie accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior during a revival service-a commitment she upheld faithfully for the rest of her life.
Annie’s early years were marked by responsibility and love, helping raise her younger siblings while excelling in school. Her family later moved to Fairfield, Alabama, where she completed her education in the Fairfield School System and graduated from Fairfield Industrial High School in 1951.
After graduating from high school, she attended nursing school for a short time and worked as a nurse’s assistant. She was united in holy matrimony to Melvin Eugene Robinson, on May 28, 1953. Together, they raised five children as she followed Melvin’s 23-year career in the United States Air Force. Their journey took them across the country and abroad, from Biloxi, Mississippi to the Panama Canal Zone and beyond, before finally settling in San Antonio, Texas in 1968-a place Annie dearly loved and proudly called home for the next 57 years.
Annie joined Westridge Park First Baptist Church in 1957 and reunited with the church in 1968 upon her return to San Antonio. She was a faithful member of the choir, the mission group, the culinary committee, and she enjoyed decorating the sanctuary for special occasions. Annie was a dedicated Christian and raised her children to trust in the Lord and know that The Lord will make a way somehow.”
Annie worked for a few years in the Edgewood School District as a Teacher Assistant at Lincoln and LBJ Elementary Schools and later volunteered with the Parent Involvement Program when her grandsons attended LBJ. She made an incredible impact on the students and throughout her community known as the glue that held her family together, Annie was a woman of many talents and endless lave. A proud homemaker, she was also a top-notch chef, a seamstress, a decorator, a tutor, and a stern disciplinarian.
If something was broken, she could fix it. If someone needed help, she gave it. She was also the family’s doctor, a counselor, a gardener and a spiritual adviser.
Annie had a strong work ethic and wasn’t afraid to get her hands dirty. She could handle power tools just as well as a sewing machine, and her handiwork still adorns her home today. Even into her later years, she climbed on rooftops to hang Christmas decorations and continued to decorate for weddings, pageants, and special events throughout the city.
Annie was also known for her impeccable sense of style-owning more than 100 hats, to pair with her many suits, shoes, and handbags. Her sassy flair and vibrant personality lit up every room she entered. Annie was also a 40-year Breast Cancer Survivor who participated in numerous Breast Cancer Awareness Walks and activities.
She is survived by her children Melvin Jr. (Georgia) of Birmingham, AL; Linda (Larry) of Clute, TX; Anthony of Houston, TX: Everne (Jeff) of Simpsonville, SC; and Anita of San Antonio, TX; her 12 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren; and 4 great great-grandchildren, 3 sisters, godchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Her legacy of faith, family, service, and strength will live on in all who were blessed to know her.

To the Robinson Family: “To God be the Glory” for a life well lived. She was Mama Ann to me and we shared a lot of wonderful Sunday mornings laughs together. She would always tell me: “I’m doing the best I can with what I got “. I’m already missing her stopping by the office checking on me. I always had to check those nails. The nails always had to match the outfits. I would tell her I couldn’t type with my nails that long and she would say you would get use to it. She will be missed and I thank God for her love and friendship. May she rest in peace. God bless her family. Love, Jean Butler
Thank you for coming to Cumbey Bethel last year.
