Mrs Anita Jule Watkins, age 94, made her transition to be with her Heavenly Father on November 7, 2024 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born Anita Jule Hill to the couple Julius and Margaret Hill on March 5, 1930 in Akron, Ohio.
She graduated from The Rayen School (Rayen High School) in 1948 and Choffin Practical Nursing School in 1953 as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), both located in Youngstown, Ohio.
She married George Watkins in 1953 and had 2 sons from this union, which ended in 1960.
As a single parent, she raised her 2 sons and was employed at St Elizabeth Medical Center of Youngstown, Ohio for 39 years where she retired in 1992 as an LPN. Once retired, she served with numerous charitable and civic organizations in the Youngstown Metro area. In 1995, she relocated from Youngstown, Ohio to San Antonio, Texas (SA) to be closer to her oldest son and his family.
After arriving in SA, she joined Emmanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in 1996 serving on the Stewardess Board and was president for a number of years until her health required her to step down in 2018. She also served as a Board member for Springfield Manor Apartment Complex in Kirby, Texas from 1999 through 2011. Her hobbies were sewing, crocheting, crossword puzzles, and arts and crafts. She was a lively, bubbly person that was always fun to be around.
She is survived by 2 sons (Bernard and Duane), 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 1 sister, 1 nephew, 2 nieces, and 2 daughters-in-law.
Mrs. Anita Watkins use to sub for JISD. She crochet so many beautiful blankets. She was so sweet to me. My sincere condolences to the family !!
