Andrew “Andy” Richardson, III, 82, returned to his heavenly home July 24, 2019 after a valiant battle with an illness. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God started as a young boy in Louisiana, and ultimately gave him peace.
Andy was born May 27, 1937 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Andrew Richardson, Jr., and Geneva Richardson. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rose Mary Richardson, and his four daughters: Denise Deas, Charlene Richardson, Pauline (Gerard) Martelly, and Teresa (LeRoy) Wilkerson; his brothers, Harold (Deborah) Richardson and Larry (Glendell) Richardson and his sister Gertrude Dolores Moore; and two grandchildren, twins Tyreé (Ishanique) and Tyreĺ Deas; along with extended family and friends.
He received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Dillard University and joined the United States Air Force immediately afterwards, which brought him to San Antonio. He was an educator at heart, always making time to answer a question, solve a problem, or engage in a healthy debate.
He was a noted biochemist with more than 40 years of experience as a civil service employee with the United States Air Force, and was recognized for his writing of numerous white papers analyzing bioenvironmental data. Andy valued family and community stewardship, and was active in the Highland Rotary Club, Sunset Fishing and Hunting Club and various community organizations.
Andy was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church for many years and later joined Emmanuel A.M.E. Church in 2008, and was an active, dedicated servant who served on various ministries, including the Steward Board, Sons of Allen and Feed My Sheep, and also served as the church treasurer. He pledged the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., at Dillard University in 1958, became a life member in 1972, and joined the Delta Rho Lambda Chapter in San Antonio, Texas.

Rosemary Richardson and Daughters (Denise, Paulene, Charlene and Teresa):
To know your husband was to love him. He was so intelligent, kind, humble, patient and giving. Mr. Richardson was a constant, stable force in your and your daughters’ lives. Your loving husband was “the measure of a man”. You, my dear Godmother, were blessed tremendously to have him as your loving husband for 60 years. I always knew your daughters’ lives were made better by having him as a father.
On behalf of my mother, Minnie Dilworth, and the entire Dilworth family, we bid Mr. Andrew Richardson a fond adieu. He courageously and valiantly fought for his life, but he had to answer the call when God called him home. Our hearts are truly broken, yet we hold onto his precious memories and release his spirit in peace. Mr. Richardson has earned his wings.
I’ll always remember the advice he gave me when I served as an Emmanuel Church officer thank you very much for the kindness you showed me during the time that I served as an officer for the church.

There comes a time when we all must pause and reflect on a love one. That time has come. May you all take comfort in remembering and understanding the impact he had on those who had the opportunity to share in his presence.
My Dear Cousin,
So sorry to hear of Andy’s passing. Our condolences and love are sent to you (Rosemary) and the rest of the family. Wish we could have been at your side during this sorrowful time. You all are in our hearts and prayers always. Praying God’s healing hands will hold onto yours and bring you the peace only He can give.
You have my deepest sympathy for your loss.
You knew him as ‘Andy’, My husband Warren and folk in NOLA and Classmates at Dillard University knew him as ‘BUGGIE’.
Talking with on of his Beta Phi APA brothers yesterday I told ‘Cheeky’ I had spoken to Buggie but not lately so would try to find info on him. Sadden to learn that he has gone to join ‘Mike and Rudy’ Warren Jacob and Rudolph Evans both deceased.
Though it is late I extend my sincerest condolences to his family.
