Amanda Jean Butler Williams was born on July 25, 1952, in Waco, Texas to the late Mr. Frank Lee Butler and Mrs. Verta Mae Butler.
They were a military family and lived in Germany and various bases across the United States. Amanda “Bang” attended school in the Edgewood Independent School district, where she graduated from Kennedy High School. During her high school years, she met her husband, James Williams. The couple married in 1971 and became the parents of three children Lamar, Nika, and Natasha. They later divorced in 1990. Amanda loved to attend family functions.
Amanda made a decision for Christian Discipleship at an early age. She became a member of Westridge Park 1st Baptist Church, in San Antonio, Texas.
Amanda’s career included working at Southwest Research Institute for many years. She then had a second career working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. Amanda enjoyed working at both companies and coworkers from each of them became lifelong friends.
Amanda was also active in social clubs. She followed in the footsteps of her father and was a member of The San Antonio Friendship Group and was actively involved with the San Antonio Zulu Association, both of which her father was a founding member. Amanda enjoyed participating in many of the events with both groups and was the life of the party.
Amanda Jean Butler Williams was called home on January 23, 2022. Amanda is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Verta Mae Butler, and her sister Genetta Marie Johnson. Amanda leaves to cherish her memory, her brother, Frank Butler Jr. Her children, Lamar (Heather) Williams, Nika Williams, and Natasha (Anthony) Bussey. Her grandchildren, Mar’Quis, A’Nessia, Anthony, Janae, Denarii, Jalen, Jaden, Hazaiah, Jah’Dae, Anthony Jr., Giovanni, Ja’Niyah, and Gianna.
Amanda touched countless lives during her wonderful years on this earth. She was always there to lend a helping hand or give words of supportive advice. Amanda will be remembered for a very long time to come.





Family, you have my very deepest sympathy. Mrs Butler-Williams was a lovely lady and kind person. Take solace in the love of Jesus Christ; trust, depend and cast all your cares upon Him. While Mrs Amanda is absent from the body, she is present with the Lord.
My deepest condolences goes out to the Butler, Williams and Bussey families for the loss of Ms. Amanda. When she smiled, the diamond in her tooth sparkled. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. She has touched so many people with her food booth at “The Taste of New Orleans” to her beautiful smile. Ms. Amanda will be missed.
