ALINE T CANNADY

November 25, 1941 ~ August 4, 2023

Early Friday morning, August 4, 2023, the Lord our God called his daughter, our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, stepmother, aunt, and friend, home to glory. Sister Aline Taylor Cannady was born November 25, 1941, in Yorktown, Texas. She was the youngest girl of ten children born to Rozina White Taylor and Johnny Eli Taylor. She is preceded in death by her parents, 5 sisters: Esther Mae Lyons, Hattie Marie King, Clara L. Beverly, Rillar Mae Taylor, and Lillian Lois Taylor; and 4 brothers: John Henry Taylor, Freddie Wayne Taylor, Charles Daniel Taylor, and Reed Lelius Taylor; and her eldest son Johnny Eli McElroy, and 2 grandsons; Quintin Robert McElroy and Jordyn Charles McElroy.

Sister Aline T. Cannady gave her life to Christ at an early age and joined the church choir in her youth. She shared with her daughter Sheila of the time “she used to sing with her older sister Lois” in church and expressed how she wished she hadn’t stopped. Aline attended and graduated from Daule High School in Yorktown, Texas. She joined the choir while attending Daule HS, where she became sectional leader for first altos. On May 5th, 1961, Daule HS had a choir concert called, “CONCERTO BY NIGHT” where Aline was the featured singer for the Daule Choirliers. She sang several solos, such as “Ava Maria” and “Mattinata (Morning Song)”, along with several spirituals such as “Sweet Lil Jesus Boy”, “Deep River” and “Swing Low Sweet Chariot”.  God blessed Aline with the gift of song, and she has always tried to bless the hearts of others through the calling God has given her. Mother, you can once again sing with your sister Lois in that heavenly choir.

Sister Cannady; moved to San Antonio with her mother Rozina Taylor where she joined Westridge Park 1st Baptist Church under Rev. C. J. Bias. She soon joined the choir and served in it until early 2022, when her illness would no longer allow her to do so. In the early 1960’s she met and married David McElroy, and to this union 4 children were born; Johnny Eli McElroy, Sheila Regail McElroy, Robert DeLeon McElroy, and Goldie Renaye McElroy. She later met and married Albert M. Cannady. Sis. Cannady went on to attend St. Philips College, where she graduated from vocational school. She soon became a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), and worked for Methodist Hospital for 30 years.  .

Sister Aline T. Cannady; leaves behind her loving children Sheila McElroy of San Antonio, TX., Goldie Kamau of Fort Worth, TX., and one son and daughter-in-law Robert & Nicollette McElroy of Fort Worth, TX; her stepdaughters Carrie Thompson of San Antonio, TX; and Linda Lewis of Inglewood, CA. She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Tiffini and husband Ryan Flores, and Brandon McElroy; Naysa and Ethan Kamau, Elijah, Bria, and Eli D. She loved the Lord & loved singing for the Lord. We travel and enjoyed many church events together. May she rest in peace and may God bless her family during your time of sorrow. Love, Jean Butler

  2. She is the Mother of Sheila Mc Elroy! She also sung in our Mass Choir! A very sweet lady! Who loved worshiping her Lord And Savior Jesus Christ! She will be missed! Rest on Momma!

  3. When Abba God introduced me to Goldie Locs (as some of her close friends call her) in 1995, soon got to meet Ms. Aline. Ms. Aline was always classy and sweet. I could certainly see where Goldie’s beauty and love for the Lord came from. Ms. Aline never minced words, another trait I loved about Goldie. I really enjoyed getting to visit with Ms. Aline and her authenticity. I am sad I never enjoyed this amazing gift of singing. McElroy/Cannady family send my deepest condolences. Rest in our Lord’s arms beautiful Ms. Aline!

  5. Come unto me all you who are weary and heavy burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28,-30. Mom, Mrs Aline, we love and adore you while you were here on this earth. Now the time has come for you to take your rest. The promise of Jesus stands firm. Come to Him if you feel weary. Come to Him however you feel. Come and rest. You have done all that you needed to do on this earth. For now your soul is anchored in the Lord.
