Willie Brooks Jr., born October 20, 1943, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Willie Brooks Sr. and Johnny May Brooks. He passed away leaving a legacy of service, dedication, and love. He was preceded in death by his parents along with his brother; Leroy Hassell of Springfield, Massachusetts, and sisters; Mattie Elizabeth Brooks of Memphis, Tennessee and Mary Walker of Carson, California.
A graduate of Manassas High School in Memphis, Tennessee, Willie continued his education at St. Phillips College in San Antonio, Texas earning an Associate degree in Robotics and Electronics. He proudly served in the United States Air Force and later worked for United Steel Company, American Can Company, Kelly Aviation, and Lockheed Martin.
Willie Brooks joined New Union Missionary Baptist Church, where he was ordained as a Deacon, as well remaining a devoted and faithful member until his passing. Throughout his years of service, he held numerous roles and responsibilities that reflected his deep commitment to his church family. His contributions included serving as Church Administrator, actively participating in the Male Chorus, and being a dedicated member of the New Union Missionary Baptist Church Brotherhood. He also served a number of times as Chairman of the church’s special occasions, provided transportation for the congregation to out‑of‑town church events, and, when ever needed, generously used his skills to make repairs throughout the ch. His willingness to serve, his steady presence, and his love for his church and community will be remembered with gratitude.
Willie Brooks met and married the devoted love of his life, Mrs. Bettye West-Bradwell. Their union became more than a marriage—it was a sacred bond woven from loyalty, tenderness, and unwavering commitment. Even in the face of death, the strength of their love endured, echoing through every life they touched and every memory they created together.
Willie Brooks is survived by his beloved wife, Bettye Brooks; his sister and brothers Connie Taylor (Mattie) of Gary, Indiana, Thomas Brooks (Mattie) of Memphis, Tennessee, and Emily Shinault of Memphis, Tennessee; and his children — George Thomas Jones, Bridget Flemings, Sharon Williams, Eric Bradwell, and Gregory Bradwell. He also leaves behind 26 grandchildren, 26 great‑grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. He is also lovingly remembered by his sisters‑in‑law Lazette Saleem, Joyce West, and Vannessa West, and his brothers‑in‑law Elwynn West (Gail), Marvin West (Pam), Lavon West and Roderick West.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His kindness, strength, and love for his family will remain forever in their hearts.
