Born in:
Port Arthur, Texas
Resided in:
San Antonio, Texas
Murray Blackburn Evans passed away on February 10, 2026, at his longtime residence in San Antonio, Texas. While San Antonio was his home, Murray was always a Port Arthurian at heart.
A graduate of Lincoln High School’s Class of 1975, Murray established his relationship with Christ at an early age at Rock Island Baptist Church, a foundation that remained an important part of his life. To know Murray was to know a creative, intelligent, and thoughtful man—one who thought deeply, loved genuinely, and offered kindness freely. Most of all, Murray was known for his warmth, his loyalty, and his unwavering availability to those who needed a friend.
Murray was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Gertha Evans, and Richard and Bernice Evans; his brothers, Robert Marks, Willie Evans, and Earl Evans II; and his niece, LaDawn Evans.
His spirit lives on in the family who adored him: his spouse, Gina Johnson; his children, Zoe Isom, Alton Walker, and Vanessa Johnson, all of San Antonio; and his sisters, Rita Evans of Addison, Texas; Rosie Dominic (Amaziah) of Edmond, Oklahoma; and Mary Williams (Terry) of Arlington, Texas. Murray’s love extended to five nieces, four nephews, several great nieces and nephews, a host of extended family members, and many dear friends.
Murray will be remembered for his gentle spirit, thoughtful mind, and the love he shared so generously. His legacy lives on in every life he touched.
