Claude “Bunky” Johnson lived a life of strength, devotion, and an unforgettable spirit. He was bold, unapologetic, and left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Drafted during the Vietnam War, Claude proudly served for over 24 years in the United States Army. He retired as a Sergeant Major in the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps, a rank that reflected his integrity, exemplary leadership, discipline, honor, and unwavering commitment to service.
Claude was a Prince Hall Freemason, member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, and a proud graduate of Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. His achievements reflected his dedication to brotherhood, education, and lifelong growth.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and family man. He cherished his late wife, Ethel “Poochie” Johnson, and family deeply. They will forever remember his booming laughter, stories, and powerful presence.
Claude’s legacy is carried forward through his children—Theresa, Nichelle, Shonte, Tristal, and Jean-Claude—and his cherished grandchildren, Cabby (niece), Mack (nephew), and the California Family who exemplify his values of strength, humor, and a fearless approach to life. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

  1. When I first meet Bunky, he’s was of friend of mine brother Donald Tillman. He gave me a rock, the was a shape of a camels head. He explained that to me. Till this day I still have that rock. That was one of my little story about Claude (Bunky). Rest easy Bunky.🙏🏾❤️

My son Burke will never forget the lessons you shared with him and Ethan when you were in Dallas to visit the Robertses, namely how to dance and respect women. For all of that, I’m forever thankful to you.

  4. Bumky lived at 301 Spruce St and we lived at 228 Spruce. We grew up together along with my 3 sisters 1 brother and my 28 1st cousins. Spruce St and Olive St is where we all played and gathered. Up and down Nebraska St for elementary school and Jr high. There are so many stories I could tell you but the main thing I would like to say is Bunky was a true friend. All of us will surely miss him. My deepest sympathies for his family.

  5. Claude , aka Bunky and I grew up in Denver Heights..he was on Spruce, I was on Hackberry..he was a fun, bold, daring, friend .many years later we met in Germany!,Poochie and I had Afros, My now deceased ex husband and Bunky , my did they clown. We had great memories
    He and his beloved Pooch are together again At Last. A great soul he will be sorely missed and finished “well” .Janice Inman Hickman-Joseph Continued prayers are with his family
