Maurice Kenneth Hill, Sr., a devoted family man and proud military veteran, passed away on November 14, 2025, at the age of 88.

Born on March 7, 1937, in San Antonio, Texas, Maurice was the beloved son of Inez and Monroe Hill. He attended St. Peter Claver High School, where he was a valued member of the basketball team. After graduation, he honorably served his country for four years at Lackland Air Force Base in Bexar County.

In 1956 while in the Air Force, Maurice married Barbara Ann Long, and together they welcomed two children, Terri Yvette Hill and Maurice Kenneth Hill, Jr. The young family later settled in San Francisco, California, where Maurice pursued barber school and dedicated 16 years of service to the San Francisco School District, primarily at Washington High School. When his children were very young, Maurice worked tirelessly, juggling three jobs to provide for his family, a testament to his unwavering dedication and love. Some of his children’s fondest memories are of accompanying him to work at Washington High School—sharing lunches, riding on his janitor’s cart, and playing games together until his shift ended. These simple yet treasured moments reflected the quality time and love he poured into his family. Though his first marriage ended after 25 years, his love and devotion to his children remained a guiding force throughout his life.

Returning to his hometown of San Antonio, Maurice met and married his beloved wife, Anita Bryant-Hill. Together they built a life filled with companionship, laughter, and family. Maurice was a true music aficionado, with a passion for jazz, rock, Latin jazz and R&B, and he delighted in sharing his love of music with friends and family. He also found joy in the kitchen, preparing his favorite homemade Mexican dishes—chili, enchiladas and menudo—always from scratch. Maurice loved spending time with his stepchildren (normally over a 49ers game or any sports that where on that day) and his grandchildren who he would sit with and tell amazing stories to.

Maurice will be remembered for his cheerful spirit, quick to tell a funny saying and his kindness. He rarely spoke a harsh word and had a gift for making those around him feel welcome. Affectionately known as “Moe”, Maurice’s legacy lives on through his wife, Anita Bryant-Hill; his children, Terri Yvette Hill, and her partner Jimmy Neal, Maurice Kenneth Hill Jr., and his wife Barbara Hill, and daughter Anita Sonya Hill; and his stepchildren, Vericka Robinson and her husband Lonell Robinson, Walter Nolden and his wife Desiree Nolden, Anthony Nolden, and Nikita Nolden and her partner Darien Byrd, as well 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his nieces Cheryl Horn, Bridgette Mitchell and nephew Keith Dunn.  Each of them brought him immense joy and pride.

Maurice’s life was marked by service to his country, dedication to education, and above all, a profound love for his family. His warmth, generosity, and unwavering devotion will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
