Wendell Wilkie Coleman was born in Jackson Mississippi on July 23, 1940, to Emma Coleman, and Russell Coleman Sr., known as (Moshe) (Moses), whose mother Mary Rosenbaum, was of Jewish decent. He was one of eight children, all born in Mississippi.

His father made the decision to move his family from the south, to the North, to Detroit Michigan in search of a better life for his family, and to join other family members who already migrated there.

Wendell attended, elementary, and high school there in Detroit, but made a decision to join the military, army branch, where he served his country in conjunction with the Texas National Guard. He served for a total of twenty years and completed his career in civil service.

As he served in the military, he was eventually stationed in San Antonio Texas, at Ft. Sam Houston. It was there that he met, his wife and life partner, Marie Adell Gray. They eventually married in San Antonio, TX, in June 1961, and were married 61 years.

The family, moved back to Detroit, Michigan briefly, but it was always in Wendell’s heart to retire and make San Antonio, TX home for him and his family. Wendell, spoke often about retiring in San Antonio, and a making a home for his family. “He often said, my family has lived the American Dream! He took such pride and joy in providing a beautiful brand-new home for his family for over 50 years.

To their union, Wendell, and Marie, have two children, Michael Jeremy Coleman, Rev. Angela Lorraine Jackson.

Wendell, was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Adell Coleman, Emma Coleman (Mother) Russell Coleman Sr. (Father) Russell Coleman Jr. (Brother) Andy Coleman (Brother) Teronia Coleman (Brother) Doris Crawford (Sister) •

He leaves to cherish his memories, Son-Michael Jeremy Coleman (Spouse Sherry-Nelson Coleman) Daughter Rev. Angela Lorraine Jackson, (Spouse Rev. Allen Keith Jackson) Grandchildren: Cornell Wheeler Jr. (Spouse Noelle Wheeler), Andrea Marie Wheeler. Two great grandchildren: Jeremiah Omari Wheeler, Noaah Elijah Wheeler.

Two Sisters: Rosemary Coleman, Bobbie Jean Coleman-Detroit Michigan, Jerry Coleman,-Brother, One Cousin, Mrs. LaVern Wright, San Antonio, TX and host of nieces nephews, relatives and friends.
