Resided in: San Antonio, Texas

John Wesley Harris Sr. was born on July 18, 1938, in Natalia, Texas, to Edward and Ivora Harris. He later moved to San Antonio, Texas, where he built a life rooted in service, family, and faith.

Shortly after graduating from Phyllis Wheatley High School in 1956, John joined the United States Air Force and proudly served for eight years. Following his military service, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Sociology from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio in 1973. He went on to dedicate 42 years to Kelly Air Force Base, where he served as a jet engine mechanic and later a Production Manager.

John lived a life filled with kindness, laughter, and unwavering love for his family and friends. In 1961 he welcomed his daughter, with then wife, Ruby Creeks. In the summer of 1980, he married Garnell Mitchell, and together they raised two sons. He was known for his warmth, reliability, steadfast faith, quick wit, love of music, and his passion for fast cars and fine automobiles.

He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, humor, and integrity. John is survived by his loving wife, Garnell Harris; three children—Deidra Harris-Martin, John Wesley Harris Jr., and Branston Garfield Harris; five grandchildren—Kristen Martin, Rachel Martin, Camden Harris, Daeisha Harris, and Samara Harris; and a host of devoted relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Ivora Harris, and his siblings: James “Jim” Harris, Anne Keary (Harris), Thomas Harris, Eloise Holmes (Harris), Edward H. Harris, and Paul Harris.

Though he will be deeply missed, John’s spirit will live on in all who knew him—through his enduring legacy of faith, love, leadership, and commitment to family.
