Our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and dear friend, Mary Magaline Haywood, was called home to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ on June 9, 2025, at the age of 99. She was born on January 10, 1926, in Berlin, Maryland, to William S. Taylor and Annie M. Fassett.
A loving mother to all, Mary was known for her vibrant personality and joyful spirit. She devoted her life to raising her children and grandchildren, instilling in them the values of hard work, compassion, and success.
Mary was not only a mother, but also a hard worker. Throughout her life, she worked tirelessly, often holding two jobs to support her family. She later landed a more permanent position where she worked a long and dedicated career of 60 years. She served faithfully as an LVN nurse at Santa Rosa Hospital for 24 years, and held her last nursing position with The Village @ Incarnate Word before retiring at the age of 87. Her work became her ministry, especially in the areas of geriatrics, labor and delivery, and women’s health. Her caring heart and tireless commitment touched countless lives.
Beyond her professional life, Mary loved to dance, often enjoying Thursday through Sunday nights on the dance floor. She also had a passion for traveling, with Las Vegas being one of her favorite destinations. Her home was always filled with warmth, delicious meals, and the laughter of family, as she loved to cook and bake large spreads for all to enjoy. Mary also had a special talent for sewing.
Her faith was unwavering as she would always look forward to attending worship services when she could.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, William and Annie, and all of her siblings. She leaves behind a powerful legacy and a family who will miss her dearly: her sons: James Haywood (Theresa), Walter Haywood (Annie II), Ronald Haywood, and her bonus daughter, Phyllis Haywood (Rodell); grandchildren: Ronda Haywood (John Underwood), Stephanie Haywood, Stacey Jones (Murray), Ebony Bryant, Natasha, Diamond, Prynce, and Zharia, all of whom lovingly called her "Grammy"; A special great-grandchild: Kira Underwood, and Buggs Haywood, her fur baby along with numerous other great-grandchildren; her beloved niece: Betty Washington; and a host of extended family members and dear friends.
Mary Magaline Haywood will be truly missed by all who were blessed to know her. Her legacy of love, strength, and faith will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
It was a joy knowing such a beautiful woman. My condolences to her family, I pray for God to keep you strong. Love, Sherry
