MISSY RENE SMITH

October 20, 1959 ~ February 14, 2025

Missy Rene (Davis) Smith was born on October 20, 1959, in San Antonio, Texas. She was raised in a loving and caring home by her parents Wilma Jean (Davis) Odom and Wilbur Odom, Sr. She was the oldest of six children: 3 girls and 3 boys. She was a loving big sister and spent much time with her siblings. She was also the oldest niece in the family.

Missy enjoyed attending church with her family. At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was baptized at Palestine Baptist Church under the direction of the late Dr. Pastor L.A. Crenshaw. Later in life she moved her membership to Lively Stone International Christian Church where she was baptized in Jesus name under the leadership of the late Bishop Ronald D. Smith.

Missy attended three public schools in San Antonio: Grant Elementary, Sul Ross Middle School and graduated from Holmes High School. It was in middle school that she met her love, Herbert Smith Sr. They dated over the years and on September 27, 1986, they united in holy matrimony. To this union 4 children were born: 2 girls and 2 boys.

Missy loved and adored her family, to her family meant EVERYTHING! Her greatest joy in life was spending time bonding with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She felt that gave her life purpose and great joy she enjoyed the love and attention she received from them. Missy had an enormous heart filled with love and caring for her family & friends. She enjoyed having family gatherings and meeting people. She would organize family reunions to bring relatives together from near and far. Her doors were always open, any friend her children would bring home she would take them in as her own. She was compassionate to those in need and helped them as much as possible. Missy loved reading her bible daily, listening to gospel music and having her husband sing gospel songs to her. Missy loved Christmas, this was her favorite holiday she enjoyed bringing her family together and putting her love into action by making sure everyone had a gift. She had many hobbies to include: cooking, crocheting, braiding hair, coloring, arts & crafts, crossword puzzles, black art and culture, and watching black movies. Her favorite show was “Little House on The Prairie”.

Missy was a fighter; her purpose was her grandchildren. There were many hospital admissions when the doctors gave her low to no chances of survival, despite the odds she outlived their timelines and continued to maintain her strong faith and trust in God. She always believed God had the final say on her life and would call her home in his own time according to his will.

On Valentine’s Day (February 14, 2025), God called on Missy and this time she answered. She peacefully transitioned from “Labor” on earth to her “Reward” in heaven. She is preceded in death by her father, Wilbur Odom, Sr; Grandmother, Maxine Powdrill Goodspeed; Two uncles, Donald Davis, Henry Powdrill; one aunt, Marilyn Powdrill; Two cousins, Gregory Davis, Jerry Davis; Two brothers-in-law, Bishop Ronald David Smith, Robert Turner; Sister-in-law, Chanell Daniels; and her mother-in-law, Raydene Smith.
