ETHEL T. CARROLL

September 3, 1914 ~ January 13, 2025

Ethel Theresa Gardiner Carroll was born in San Antonio, Texas on September 3, 1914 to Myrtle Redus Gardiner and Edward Gardiner. She was the second child in a family of two sisters and

one brother. She attended Holy Redeemer School. Graduated from St. Peter Claver Academy and attended St. Mary’s University. On December 3, 1939 she was united in marriage to Ira

Joseph Carroll. He preceded her in death in 1982.

Ethel had a strong sense of commitment to her church. She served as Eucharistic Minister, secretary of pastoral council, Lector, and chairman Christian Service Committee. In 1977 she

received the Archbishop Frances Furey Award for outstanding service to the church and in 2013 she was honored with the Gentium Award. Ethel was a charter member of the Ladies Sodality as well a member of Santa Monica Ct. 35 Ladies Auxiliary Knights of Peter Claver. A charter member of Fourth Degree Ladies of Grace. She held the offices of recording secretary, treasurer, financial secretary and faithful comptroller. She received the Lady of the Year Award from the Ladies Auxiliary in 1984 and 1988.

Ethel retired from Kelly Air Force Base in 1973. During her 25 year civil service career, she received awards for outstanding job performances.

She is survived by her nephews William Gardiner (wife Paulette), Kenneth Gardiner (Wife Bethany), niece Lisa Jones (Charles), Great Nieces Ashley Jones, Kaiya Gardiner, Great-nephews Devin Jones, Jayden Gardiner, Goddaughter W. Lee Smith, dear cousins, Holy Redeemer Parish family, Claver Family and Friends and a host of caregivers

Mrs Carroll Was My Neighbor On Hays Street, We Moved On Hays Street In 1984 -1986 She Was A Very Sweet And Beautiful Woman, She Was Like My Second Mother, My Mother Passed Away In June 1986 I Was 16 Years Old I Had To Learn How To Plan Mother’s Funeral And Mama Carroll Helped Me. I’ll Never Will Forget Her. RIH Mama Carroll Tell My Mama I Love And Miss Her So Much .
