Harold Raye Myart Sr. was born on March 29, 1949, in San Antonio, Texas to James Willie Myart Sr. and Inez Estelle Myart. He had six siblings: Brenda, Carol (Twin), Marguerite (Curly), Janet & James (Twins), Laverne, and a special cousin, Otto.
Harold attended Fox Tech High School in San Antonio, Texas, where he graduated in 1968. The completion of many technical courses at Fox Tech nourished his desire to flourish in the construction business.
Harold met the love of his life, Emma during a Juneteenth Celebration, in San Antonio, Texas (Comanche Park). Harold and Emma united in Holy Matrimony on August 10, 1968.
They shared a wonderful life of 56 years together. Harold and Emma welcomed a loving son within their union, Harold Myart Jr.
Harold pursued and became a licensed Master Plumber in 1988. He was the first African American plumber to become a member of the Local 142 United Association for Plumbers and Pipefitters in San Antonio. Harold’s desire in life was to be an independent business owner, inspired by his grandfather, HC Thompson Sr., who was a plumber. His first business endeavor was Myart and Thompson, with his cousin Otto Thompson, followed by Myart and Myart Mechanical with his brother James Myart Jr. Myart and Myart Mechanical became a well know name and the largest African American owned plumbing company in San Antonio. Harold eventually branched out and started his own company, ABC Services, which included plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and electrical installation and repair. Harold was the owner and operator of ABC Services for over 30 years, serving communities in San Antonio until his recent departure to his heavenly home.
Harold was hard working and dedicated with many talents. He took pride in helping family and many others in need. His absolute joy was teaching and providing step-by-step guidance on how to repair something that was broken!
When Harold was not spending time with his family or working, his favorite pastime was fishing. He spent countless hours on the water in his full fishing gear, with his good friends and sometimes family. His enjoyment came with the challenge of catching the big one or, oftentimes, just relaxing on the water.
Harold grew up in the church and accepted Christ at an early age. On July 28, 1990, Harold was ordained as a Minister by the Presbytery of Brazos River. He became the second Pastor of Second Cumberland Presbyterian Church, which later became Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church, following in the footsteps of his dad, the late Rev. James W. Myart Sr. Harold pastored the church for over 20 years, where his siblings were also members. As a member of the Brazos River Presbytery, he served as an assistant moderator and as a chairman for the Minster’s board. Harold shared the word of Christ to many, participating in ministries at juvenile centers, with the Harvest Ministry Organization. Harold would share the word of Christ in hopes of guiding the youth in the right direction.
In 2001, Harold (Pappa) met his first grandchild (Harold III), followed by the second (Branden) in 2004. His grandchildren were a joy in his life. There are many fond memories with the grandkids growing up. First and foremost, Harold would share the meaning of being a Christian and the importance of accepting Christ as your savior. Harold would go above and beyond to keep the grandkids entertained when they came to visit. Going fishing, going to the parks, allowing the kids to use their driving skills to drive him around, showing them steps on how to troubleshoot any type of repair problem, or just having a friendly competition in basketball.
Harold was a devoted Pastor in Christ, a deeply beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He leaves a legacy of faithfulness, kindness, love, and blessing many lives with his present. He will be truly missed.
Harold leaves to cherish his memories; his son Harold Myart Jr. (daughter-in-law, LaNetrice). His grandchildren; Harold Myart III and Branden Myart. His sister, Laverne M. Burdette and cousin, Otto M. Thompson; and a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Emma M. Myart; parents, James W. Myart Sr. and Inez E. Myart, his sisters Brenda E. Thomas Robinson, Carol F. Chambers, Janet W. Myart Prince, Marguerite (Curly) Daniel and brother James W. Myart Jr.
