JOHNNIE LEON HENRY

July 1, 1949 ~ September 20, 2024

Johnnie Henry passed away on September 20, 2024. She was born on July 1, 1949 in Schulenburg, TX to Victor and Mary White. She graduated from Wheatly High School in Houston, TX.

Johnnie attended St. James Missionary Baptist Church, was baptized at an early age, and played the piano for the church during her youth. On July 6, 1965, Johnnie married the love of her life, Elroy Henry, in Houston, Texas. To this union three children, Eric, Terri and Terrill, were born.

In 1979, Johnnie and her family moved to Converse, Texas. She worked at Judson High School as a counselor and for a local charter school district where she was an independent contractor as its registrar/data processor.

Johnnie and her husband attended church regularly and were active members, first at Savannah Baptist Church in Marion, Texas then Resurrection Baptist Church in Schertz, Texas.

While at Resurrection, Johnnie unselfishly served by spearheading the wedding ministry, teaching the Evangelism 102 classes and providing pre-marital counseling with her husband. Johnnie continued to be an active member of Resurrection Baptist Church, even after her husband passed in 2016, and only stepped away from her church ministries when she became ill in 2018. Although she could not physically attend services, she regularly attended on-line. Even while she was bed-bound, Johnnie continued God’s work by ministering and encouraging others through His word when they visited her, when she spoke with them on the phone or through text messages.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters Helen (Manfred) Spencer, Iranell (Clarence) Steward, and Thelma (Edward) Glass and brothers, Billie Flowers and Victor White, Jr. Johnnie is survived by her sons, Eric Henry, Houston, TX and Terrill (Towanda) Henry, Princeton, TX; daughter, Terri Henry, Schertz, TX; grandson, Brandon Henry, Converse, TX and granddaughter, Mayorri Miller, Schertz, TX; brothers, Hermer White, Houston, TX and Ronnie (Marion) White, Houston, TX, and a host of nieces and nephews.
