Flores Lorett Harris was born on September 6, 1944, to Floyd Lipton Green and Frankie Vera Jacobs Green here in San Antonio, Texas where she lived for her entire life. Flores was born into the New Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Family and professed her faith when she was 5 years old. She attended school at Cuney Elementary, Douglass Junior High and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School where she was a violinist in the Jefferson Orchestra.
After graduation, Flores went on to work in the customer service industry in various positions. Her longest tenure was at Walmart where she worked for 22 years as a cashier and was recognized as “Employee of the Month” in June 2005 and “4 Star Cashier of the Month” in June 2006. Flores was still an active part-time employee at Walmart at the time of her passing.
Flores was blessed with four children whom she loves dearly, and they love her tremendously in return: Loretta Moten; San Antonio, TX, Curtis Culberson; London, England, Troy Culberson; El Paso, TX and Kevin Culberson (Beige); Edmond, OK. Although, her real “pride and joy” are her seven grandchildren: Jordan, Quinton, Clover, Hailey, Michael, Olivia and Amelia.
In addition to her children and grandchildren, Flores leaves to cherish her memory, two brothers, Robert Eugene Green (Donna); Sugar Land, TX and Leonard Boyd Green; San Antonio, TX and many other relatives and friends. She could often be heard on the telephone talking about the results of a Dallas Cowboys’ game or scheduling her next shopping spree with her long-time friend, Lutelia Broome. She also spoke to her long-time friend, Deloris “Dee Dee” Buffin daily about the events of “General Hospital” or the church choir.
The New Mount Pleasant Church Choir was one of her favorite things. Her powerful alto voice could be heard clearly whenever she sang. In 2022, the sanctuary choir was renamed the “Flores Harris Sanctuary Choir”. In addition to singing for the Lord, Flores was a member of the “Into His Likeness” Sunday School Class #3, the “Genevieve Jones Women’s Ministry” and Pastor Allen’s Bible Study Class. She never ceased her biblical study, she even attended Vacation Bible School each Summer. In 2010, Flores was named New Mount Pleasant “Women of the Year” and she also had the distinction of being the longest tenured member of the church, since she was born into the congregation and continued as an active member her entire life.
As much as Flores loved her biological family, she so loved her New Mount Pleasant Church family and Walmart family as well. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her, and her memory will always be with us.
