A virtuous woman, Doris Luddington James was the second child born to Reverend Clifford Lester and Sister Geneva Holmes Luddington on June 29, 1928, in Seguin, Texas. In 1937 the family relocated to San Antonio, Texas. At a very early age her parents and siblings united with Corinth Baptist Church. She was baptized by the late Reverend W.B. Myers. This is where her Christian journey began, and she remained a member of Corinth throughout her lifetime. Reared in a Christian home, Doris received her formal education at Cuney Elementary School. She was a product of Phyllis Wheatley High School's graduating class of 1945 at the age of 16. She later attended San Antonio Beauty School and was a licensed Beautician.
On December 14, 1946, Doris was joined in holy matrimony to Celestine James. To this union seven children were born: Harold Eugene, Ralph Alvin, Kenneth LaRoy, Carolyn Yvonne, Ronald Louis, Thomas Ray, and Beverly Ann. She was truly a mother, homemaker, housewife, and an immaculate housekeeper. Church and school was the foundation of the home. She loved her family and her children were the pride and joy of her life. Next to her family she loved Greater Corinth Baptist Church. She was a faithful member and regular attendant until her health began to fail. Even though she was unable to attend, she spoke fondly of her church. Her humor and love are blessings to all who knew her. It can truly be said she fought a good fight, she finished the race, she kept the faith.
She went home peacefully to be with the Lord. Doris' earthly journey came to an end, February 3, 2024, at 6:34 pm. Those who preceded her in death are both parents, after 47 years of marriage her devoted husband Deacon Celestine James, three sons Harold Eugene James, Ralph Alvin James, and Kenneth LaRoy James.
In her passing she leaves lasting and wonderful memories to two sons, Ronald James and Thomas James, two daughters Carolyn McClure and Beverly James, two granddaughters, Angela Gilliam and Shameka Boone (Elnora), five grandsons, Kenneth LaRoy James (Channary), Keenan James, Clifford Joseph James (Elizabeth), Shay Gilliam, and Donald Leon McClure, Jr., seven siblings Clifford Lester Luddington, Jr. (Janet), Deloris Warrior, Clifteen Anthony, Valgrace Duncan, Jean Sullivan, Patricia Jackson (Ally), and Linda Zakaria. One first cousin Henry Young, numerous nephews, nieces, friends, and neighbors who are grateful to God for the ninety-five years He allowed her to be with us.
Although she is gone, she will never be forgotten.
