WILMA JEWEL TAYLOR-GREENE

On September 26, 1927, Jack and Velma Wynne welcomed their second child, Wilma Jewel, into the world. The family grew up in the Crabbs Prairie community of Huntsville, Texas, where Wilma professed faith at an early age and united with St. Paul Methodist Church. Wilma was a curious and industrious student, graduating as valedictorian of Sam Houston High School. She continued her education at Prairie View A&M University and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Upon graduation from Prairie View A&M, Wilma accepted a teaching job in Mount Pleasant, Texas. She was there for three years until her marriage to Arthur Taylor. The Taylors moved to San Antonio, Texas in 1951, and to their union was born one daughter, Sheredian Willette.

After moving to San Antonio, Wilma united with St. Paul United Methodist Church and remained an active and faithful member until her health declined and she moved to Conroe, Texas to be near her daughter.  She had a special fondness for St. Paul United Methodist Church, working in a variety of ministries including Communion Stewards, Bible Study, Feed My Lamb Food Pantry, Methodist Women, and was Financial Secretary for many years.  Her greatest honor was being named Woman of the Year in 2013.

Wilma Jewel was very outgoing and cherished meeting and being with people. On September 8, 1983, she married Herndon Greene. Together they enjoyed traveling, attending church and social events, dancing and game nights. Additionally, Wilma had a passion for playing bridge and competing in tournaments, reading and Book Club. In her spare time, she played games such as scrabble, suduko, solitaire and bingo.

More than anything, Wilma loved her family. She relished daily telephone conversations with her sister, Dorothy, and they would talk hours at a time, often until one of them would fall asleep on the phone.  Wilma attended family gatherings whenever she could and was a keeper of family history. Granddaughter Shaniqua was her special love, as well as her great grandsons, Christian and Jordan.

Professionally, Wilma worked as an editor and in public relations at Kelly Air Force Base and Randolph Air Force Base. After retiring from Randolph AFB, Wilma became a realtor. She was appointed to the Bexar County Appraisal Board, where she served the maximum of three terms.  Wilma continued using her business acumen working as a tax preparation specialist for H&R Block, eventually becoming manager of her branch office.

Wilma was preceded in death by her father, Jack Wynne; mother, Velma Wynne; husband, Herndon Greene; sister, Elvira L. Wynne; brothers, George A. Wynne, Kenneth Wynne, and James Delaney and brother-in-law, Wilburn Roberts. She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Sheredian Vickers (Joe); three sisters, Dorothy Davis (Odell), Jacquelyn Lewis and Carolyn Roberts; one brother, John Wynne (Evelyn); two grandchildren, Shaniqua Young (Kevin) and Andre Riser; three nieces, Schelcia Lewis, Shamakia Wynne and Tiffany Wynne; four nephews, Winston Ray Wynne, (Sharon), DeWayne Davis (Joy), Joseph Lewis, and John Wynne, Jr. and a host of other dear relatives and friends.
