ANTOINETTE V. FRANKLIN

Antoinette V. Franklin poet, author, educator, was the second daughter of Nathaniel and Ruth Ella Lara Franklin and proud mother of daughter, Alexis Rose Franklin. Antoinette was a six-generation native of San Antonio, where she attended St Gerard Middle and High School.

Ms. Franklin achieved a BA in Psychology-Incarnate Word College 1972; MA in Management – Webster University 1990; MA Ed. in Adult Education – University of Incarnate Word 1998, and where she was pursuing a Ph. D. in Organizational Leadership. She retired in 2017, after 37 years of civil service; where she worked in procurement, and taught ESL/EFL for the Defense Language Institute (DLI) Lackland AFB. Antoinette also taught part-time as a GED instructor for SAISD, and a creative writing Instructor at the Carver Library, as of 2008. She served on various boards for the enhancement of the arts. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority since 1975. The Ladies Auxiliary of St. Peter Claver at St. Joseph Catholic Church where she served as a lecturer and Eucharistic Minister.

Antionette began writing at the age of six, and is published in over 124 anthologies, and has published fifteen books, and other works of poetry, short stories, and essays. She received a golden Poet Award from the World of Poetry 1989; and an honorable mention from Writers Digest for self-publishing in 2009, and an Arts and Letters Award San Antonio Public Library 2019.

She was owner of “A Vicious Fox Literary Enterprises” since 1992, and “A.V. Literary Enterprises” since 1994, and managing editor of Impressive Jewels Cultural Magazine. Antoinette encouraged her students to “Always Follow Your Dreams” and to write, write, write. Antoinette loved spending time with family, reading, writing, and watching old western movies.

Her favorite writing and reflective places included the gazebo at King William Park, and Brackenridge Park, and the Carver Library.

Antoinette was preceded in death by her father Nathaniel and mother Ruth Ella Lara Franklin. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Alexis Rose Franklin (granddog Beary), sister Grace E.
