ANNIE M CAMPBELL

June 5, 1925 ~ July 21, 2023

Our beloved Mother Annie M. Campbell entered into eternal rest peacefully at her home on July 21, 2023 at the age of 98. Mother was born June 5, 1925 in Gillette, Texas to the parentage of Joe and Mary L. Scott. Mother received her education in Sublime and Gillette, Texas. After the passing of her father in Sublime, Texas mother moved back to Gillette with her mother and sister Ethel. Later her mother remarried Therdo Neal and mother was further raised by Daddy Therdo Neal and her mother. Later mother moved to San Antonio where she worked various jobs. In the 1940’s mother met and married James C. Campbell, to this union five children were born, James C. Campbell Jr., Joe E. Campbell, Edward H. Campbell, Debbie L. Campbell, and Mary E. Campbell.

Mother attended St. Phillips College where she completed the nurse aide program. Caregiving was Mother’s passion. Mother worked at Baptist Memorial Hospital for eighteen years. After leaving Baptist Hospital, Mother worked as a live in caregiver until she retired.

Mother was a women of great faith. She was raised in the Church of God In Christ (COGIC) and received Christ at an early age. Mother continued her walk with the Lord at Blue Bonnet COGIC under the leadership of Elder E.D. Childress. Mother was an active member in church, she was a member of the coir, choir treasurer, usher board, and the Young Women’s Christian Council (YWCC). After the passing of Elder E.D. Childress, mother continued at Blue Bonnet under the new leadership of Bishop T.D. Iglehart. Later they moved to the new church, Childress Memorial COGIC, where she continued on the usher board under the leadership of Bishop T.D. Iglehart until his passing and his successor S.E. Iglehart came aboard. Mother remained faithful and later joined the Mothers Board where she was very active, was elected Vice President, and voted Mother of the year. Mother served these positions until she became shut-in do to her health.

After the burning down of Childress Memorial, Mother continued her membership at the newly built Praise Cathedral COGIC, still under the leadership of S.E. Iglehart until his passing and Bishop Shelton C. Rhodes came aboard. Mother was a faithful member until her passing.

Mother was preceded in death by her parents Joe Scott, Therdo & Mary L. Neal, her husband James C. Campbell Sr, Brother Therdo Neal Jr., sister Ethel Roach, sons Edward H. Campbell, James C. Campbell Jr. (Tynnie – deceased), Joe E. Campbell Sr. (Barbara), and granddaughter Dawn L. Sance. She leaves behind her cherished memories to her two daughters, Debbie L. Sance & Mary E. Campbell both of San Antonio, Texas, brother-in-law Charles Walker (Gloria) of San Antonio, six grandchildren, Nadine Leonard (Robert) of Alabama, Joe E. Campbell Jr of Oklahoma, Michael Hamilton, Pamela Campbell, Ervin L. Weatherspoon, Germond M. Sance & one bonus grandson Terrell Lewis all of San Antonio, two nephews Gregory Neal of Germany, Barry Roach of California, one niece Sheri L. Batalla (Ricky) of California. Twelve great grandchildren, and host of great-great grandchildren, great nieces and nephews, cousins and a dear friend Jerrel Calhoun.

  1. I met Ms. Campbell in 1973 when I became friends with her Daughter Mary whom I attended high school with. Ms. Campbell was a very nice person to me & I enjoyed the times I saw & talked with her. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

  2. The departure of the benevolent Ms. Campbell has imprinted profound grief upon us all. Her insuppressible love, innate kindness, effervescent friendliness and thoughtful nature left indelible marks on our hearts. She shall forever live in cherished memories and her spirit will continue to inspire us eternally as she finds peaceful rest and ascends to glorious heights in Heaven.
