EVELYN HUBBARD

April 11, 1936 ~ June 20, 2023

Evelyn Marie Robinson Hubbard, the 5th child of 11 siblings, was born on April 11, 1936 in San Antonio, Texas to her parents, Thomas H. Robinson, Jr. and Genevieve (Davis) Robinson. She departed this life peacefully on Tuesday, June 20, 2023.

Evelyn grew up in a loving family, surrounded by her siblings, grandparents, great-grandparents, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and many cousins. She joined New Hope Baptist Church at a very young age under the leadership of her grandfather, Rev. Thomas H. Robinson, Sr.  She loved going to church and sang in the choir.

A few years after graduating from Phyllis Wheatley in 1956, Evelyn moved to California and spent many years there before moving back home to San Antonio.  She worked at Baptist Hospital and continued her profession as a Nurse’s assistant for many years. Her profession allowed her the opportunity to care for and support many clients, family members and led to her being recognized by the City of San Antonio’s Department of Human Services at the District 2 Service Center for her Outstanding Service as a volunteer (2017 -2018).  When she was not volunteering, she enjoyed bus trips to Kick-a-poo Casino, playing Lotto and enjoying dinner at her favorite restaurants.

Evelyn possessed a quiet spirit and would help others before asking for help for herself. She displayed unconditional love to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Matthew Robinson, sisters: Tommye Lee Mann, Nina Emerton and Genevieve (Bingo) Robinson: Brothers: Albert, Ivory and Elliott, Sr.

She leaves to cherish her memory:  her son, Edward Washington (Germany), her devoted and dedicated daughter-in-law, April Robinson; Brothers: Charles, Herbert, Sr. and Thomas, III.; Sister: Mamie Robinson (Pflugerville, Tx); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Guestbook

  1. Evelyn was an inspiration to me. My name is Mary Vance and I lived on the other side of Rice Rd. Several days a week I run into Ms. Evelyn either coming or going. She enjoyed getting out and enjoying life. I am much younger than Ms. Hubbard so I enjoyed listening to her experiences and wisdom. One day she saw me with a blue summer hat that she really like so much. Since I had two I gave her the other one. She was very happy to get it. I have known Ms. Evelyn about ten years and I have many enjoyable memories of her. When I found out she was in the nursing home I was able to visit her three times before she passed. She is gone but will not be forgotten.

  2. Sending our condolences and praying for the family. Mrs Evelyn would always check on my Mother (Mrs Sheppard) who was her neighbor. She was a special person to our family. My Mother also went to school with her brother so they also knew each other very well. She will be missed. RIP
