ELVIN BURNES

March 5, 1942 ~ June 12, 2023

Mr. Elvin (Hawk, Big ‘E’) Burnes was born March 5,1942 to the late R.B. Burns and Lula Mae Burns-Hicks in

Montevallo, AL and passed June 12, 2023. He was preceded in death by both parents, Stepmother Josephine Burns, Stepfather O.C. Hicks, and Daughter Malinda Williams-Franklin.

Elvin accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Ward Chapel Church in Montevallo, AL. He graduated from Prentice High School in AL. He served in the US Army from 1962-1965. Upon completion of his military duties he relocated to San Antonio, TX where he was employed by HEB. Later in 1970, he joined the SAPD and remained there for 33 years, retiring in 2004. While employed with SAPD he worked as a Patrolman, Detective, Vice, Snap and taught some classes at the Academy. Last, but not least he was the Proud Godfather for the Black SAPD Assoc. He received numerous Special Awards and Recognition for his dedicated performance during his SAPD tenure.

After retirement he enjoyed traveling, especially to the casinos. A devoted fan, he enjoyed watching Dallas Cowboys and SA Spurs. However, his proudest role was being a dedicated, loving husband, father, stepfather & Papa. He was married to his beloved and devoted wife, Mrs. Linda Brooks Burnes for 36 years, who he leaves to mourn his death. Along with Daughter Cheryl (Torace) Ingram; Son

Raymond Williams Jr; Grandsons Elvin L. Burnes & Ernest Crockett; Granddaughter Doryce Ingram; Great granddaughters: Sa'Nyah Crockett & Amaris Burnes;

Siblings: Della Burns, Jackie (Bobbie) Fears, Ricky Hicks. Also a host of additional grandchildren, nephews, nieces, friends, SAPD brothers/sisters.
