In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, we invite you to donate to the Psi Alpha Scholarship Foundation, 1135 Virginia Blvd, San Antonio, Texas 78203, in memory of Willie C. Pope.
Major Willie C. Pope, U. S. Air Force (Retired), transitioned from earth to glory on Friday, May 19, 2023. He was born on October 26, 1952, in Aiken, SC to the late Annie M. and Marshall Pope, Sr.
Willie graduated from Aiken High School in 1970. He furthered his education by attending the University of Texas (Austin, TX), where he received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1984, and Webster University (St. Louis, MO), where he received his Master of Arts in Information Systems Management & Acquisition Management in 2004.
Willie began his career in the United States Air Force in December 1970. He served his country through various positions and assignments, moving up the ranks throughout his 29 years of military service, retiring in January 2000. His major decorations included the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. After ending his military career, Willie worked for The MITRE corporation providing Information Systems Support to the Air Force until retiring for the second time in May 2014.
Willie started his journey in Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. with his initiation on June 17, 1989, through Mu Chi Chapter, 4th District, Fairborn OH. His demonstrated leadership is evident and documented in his duties as Chapter Basileus, Vice Basileus, Keeper of Records and Seal, (KRS); Assistant KRS; and Parliamentarian. His stellar service is also noteworthy in his Psi Alpha Chapter Committee Membership with Social Actions, Budget, Holiday Ball, Nominations, Achievement Week, Family Picnic, and the Membership Selection Process. At the Texas State level, he served as President of Texas Lone Star State Ques (LSSQ), providing leadership and direction to 34 Graduate Chapters and 24 Undergraduate Chapters. In addition, he served as 9th District Texas State Area Representative and 9th District Texas State Membership Selection Process Chairman. This Psi Alpha Chapter “Omega Man of the Year” was instrumental in laying a solid foundation that has contributed to the award-winning success of the largest chapter in the 9th District, Psi Alpha Chapter.
Willie accepted Christ at a young age and later served on the Men’s Usher Board, Men’s Choir, and the Finance Committee at Second Baptist Church in San Antonio.
He enjoyed spending time with loved ones and was a huge fan of both the San Antonio Spurs and the Texas Longhorns.
Willie was preceded in death by his parents, Annie M. and Marshall Pope, Sr.; brothers, Marshall Pope, Jr., John Pope, Jack Pope, and Cephas Pope, Sr.; and sisters, Mamie Pope Fields, and Catherine Denise Pope.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of over 42 years, Lory; loving daughter, Dominique; brothers Tommy Pope, Alexander Pope (Margaret), and Talmadge Pope (Miriam); sisters Ann Hemingway (William), Patricia Reed (Robert), and Salomia Pope Snow (Lonnie); and a host of relatives (in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews), friends, and fraternity brothers.
