DEACON JIMMY LEE HAYES

January 2, 1952 ~ December 20, 2022

Jimmy Lee Hayes was called home to glory on December 20, 2022. God saw that the road was getting tough, the hills were hard to climb, so he closed Jimmy’s eyes softly and whispered, “servant, peace be thine.”

Jimmy was born on January 2, 1952 to Margarine and Henry Hayes in Leesburg, Florida. In 1970, after Jimmy graduated from Lake Weir High School, where he played football, basketball and ran track, he enlisted in the Marine Corp. While in the Marine Corp, Jimmy married his high school sweetheart, Louise Siplin, and to their union, two children were born, Latrina and Telly Hayes.

After serving his country for several years, Jimmy embarked on a career in the trucking industry. After tragedy struck in 1977, Jimmy and his two children relocated to San Antonio. On a visit back home to Florida, Jimmy ran into Ernestine Dyles, a former classmate, and the two began a relationship.  Jimmy immediately fell in love with Ernestine’s children, Trina and Derek. In 1982, Jimmy and Ernestine were married.

After several years in the trucking industry, Jimmy established his own successful hauling company, B&J Transportation, with friend Howard Barnes. Jimmy devoted his life to God, family and friends. He was a member and head deacon at Hosack Baptist Church.

He enjoyed spending time with family, restoring classic cars and trucks, fishing, gardening, camping in his RV and listening to his vinyl records.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his mother, Margarine Hayes, his father Henry Hayes, Louise Hayes, Ernestine Hayes, his son Derek Dyles, his two sisters Gladys and Cindy and his brother Toney.

Jimmy leaves to cherish his memories his children, Trina Glass, Latrina Hayes-Davis (Steven) and Telly, and siblings, Linda Holland, Helen (Lendell)Welcome, Jesse (Vernetta) Hayes, Gary Hayes and Johnnie Mae Bothwell. As well as his grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, special family friends Tony Taylor and Lyndell Brown and a host of countless family and friends.

  1. My husband had a long-time friendship with Jimmy Hayes.
For several years, while our children were not more than 7 years old, my husband helped repair the B&J trucks for Jimmy. Because of our work schedules most times he had to take our 3 children with him to do this work. On these visits, Jimmy was always very kind to them, offering snacks and cold treats whenever he had the chance. On these visits they would see him working on the property; always fixing something around his house or tending to his animals.
He planted the seeds of kindness in their little hearts. They have never forgotten the adventures they had at “Jimmy’s” nor how nice Jimmy was to them! May he rest in peace. We send our prayers and heart-felt condolences to his family.
