Jimmie Nicholas

July 28, 1943 ~ August 12, 2022

On July 28, 1943, in Danville, Arkansas, Jim and Alma Tolbert, welcomed a joyful baby girl named Jimmie Lou as the eleventh of thirteen children. At a very young age, she enlisted in the army of the Lord and actively served until the Lord called her home on August 12, 2022.
Jimmie Lou believed in education (formal and informal) and learning as much as you can while you can. She received academic instruction in Danville, Arkansas and Clarksdale, Mississippi. She went on to receive an Associate of Arts from Coahoma Community College. She attended San Antonio College, also. Armed with a plethora of knowledge, skills and abilities, she secured 43 1/2 years of gainful employment with the Department of Defense. She retired from the Army Medical Department Center and School Academic Records Division as a Training Technician in 2017.
On July 15, 1965, she joined in holy matrimony with Andrew Nicholas Jr. This union was fruitful and produced three children, Anthony Bennard, Yvonne Michelle, and Andrea Delonda. Jimmie Lou loved to travel and with the military commitment of her husband to the U.S. Army, she traveled to Fort Huachuca, Arizona, twice to Japan (Camp Zama and Okinawa) and three times to San Antonio, Texas. Leisurely, she loved traveling to attend annual family reunions that convened in Florida, Arkansas, Mississippi, Kansas and Washington, DC.
Jimmie Lou truly enjoyed all things family. She regularly attended and/or participated in activities and events with her family. From games to choir, band and play performances, you could be sure that her smile, yells and claps would be present and heard throughout the venue. She was an avid supporter of sporting events and talent shows at Fort Sam Houston Youth Services and the Judson Jr Rockets. She loved family, soul food and above all

GOD! Throughout the years, she provided tributes, occasions, and welcomes for Mt Sinai and various churches throughout the city. She chaired/co- chaired annual days and prayer breakfasts, was a member of the Mt Sinai Choir and currently served as President of the Hospitality/ Courtesy Ministry. On any given Sunday, Jimmie Lou could be seen with outstretched arms and hallelujah in her praise. She loved the Lord and ensured her family did, too. She proudly walked the walk she talked. She believed God would make a way and He did. She trusted in the Lord with all her heart and He directed her path. She turned things over to the Lord and He worked them out.
Jimmie Lou enjoyed thrifting and estate sales. She really knew how to make a dollar out of fifteen cents. This joy she shared with her children and many friends that would accompany her on treasure hunts and shopping sprees. Family and friends describe her as courageous, joyful, kind, generous, loving, faithful, compassionate, encouraging, and empathetic all perfectly packaged as a beautiful, always smiling, virtuous, God-fearing woman.
Affectionately known as “Lou Baby”, Jimmie Lou Nicholas, is preceded in death by her parents (Jim & Alma Tolbert), brothers (Raymond, Coy, Lawrence, William), and sisters (Jeannette, Juanita, Georgia, Evelyn). She leaves to cherish her memories three children: Anthony Nicholas (Teresa), Yvonne Nicholas-Carter (Emory), and Andrea Nicholas, brother (Charles), sisters (Elnora and Shirley), six grandchildren (Terrell, Tamara, Kiara, Marquisha, Amber, and Anthony Jr), and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and special family friends.

I could go on and on talking about Sis. Jimmie! She knew I loved her and she will forever be a part of my life. Rest easy now Big Sis. with the Lord! See you at the meeting! 💚🙏🏾💜🌺 Edna DuPree Bodnel
