Jessie Mae Allen

June 5, 1940 ~ August 12, 2022

Jessie M. Allen of San Antonio, TX passed away on August 12, 2022 in San Antonio. Jessie was born to Hazel L. V. Mock and Lloyd N. Coffin on June 5, 1940 in Reidsville, NC. Following her mother’s marriage to Harry Walker of Hampton, VA, Jessie moved to Hampton. She was a proud alumna of George P. Phenix High School, which was located on the campus of Hampton Institute.

Jessie married Joe F. Walker of Hampton, VA. Sadly, Joe was killed in 1967 during his service in Vietnam. Jessie then married Frank Allen, Jr. of Farmville, VA, and they remained married until Frank passed in 2010.

Jessie was a valued employee of the Department of Defense (Army) having worked in various posts exchanges where Frank was stationed. She retired in San Antonio, which was also Frank’s last post.

Jessie was a proud member of The Order of the Eastern Star, as well as a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church of San Antonio.

Jessie was preceded in death by her husbands, Joe F. Walker and Frank Allen, Jr., mother (Hazel L.V. Mock Walker), father (Lloyd N. Coffin), stepfather (Harry H. Walker), and her sister Faye B. Walker. She is survived by her sisters, Oriole B. Harris and Deborah B. Walker, her brother, Larry N. Coffin, her goddaughter, Monica Brandon Lee, her dear friend and caretaker, Barbara Garnett, as well as nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

We also like to offer a special acknowledgement to Kindred Hospice for the services that it provided in Jessie’s final days.
