Bernice was born in San Antonio, TX to Richard Raymond Allen and Henrietta Lewis on October 24,1929. Bernice was a proud graduate of Phyllis Wheatley High School class of 1952. She married Clifton Ray Steen Jr. on July3, 1968, in San Antonio, TX. She worked as a Household employee for Mrs.Laura Russ for 25 years. In 1970, she attended Shaws Barber College and acquired her Barber’s License and spent years cutting hair. She was baptized into the Lord at the Coliseum Park Church of Christ in 1958 where she was under the teaching of the late Lillian Flanagan. She labored diligently in the Bereavement/Hospitality ministry for the Coliseum Park Church of Christ where she also taught bible classes and mentored the church’s youth. She was a sterling example of commitment to church attendance and church activities. She faith fully attended services at the Dellcrest Church of Christ until the Lord called her home. She was recognized for her work in the food ministry and various other activities. Bernice was a hardworking, determined woman who persevered through many of life’s challenging obstacles by leaning on her faith in the Lord. She was always stylish and cared about her appearance wherever she went .
Honorable Mention: Bernice’s grandchildren would like to recognize Ronnie and daughter-in-law Joanne for their unwavering and selfless dedication to his mother’s he alt hand needs until her passing.
Bernice is preceded in death by her parents; her siblings (Geraldine Williams, Margaret Henson, Mary Francis Smith, Richard G. Allen, and Eugene R.Allen) and former spouse.
Bernice leaves to cherish her memories her children, John (Cynthia), Louis (Yvonne), Maryetta, and Ronnie (Joanne); grandchildren, Azim, Muhammad, Muslim, Swiyyah, Abdul, Ronald, ShaRhonda, Courtney (Geoffrey), Briana (Sadie – Grand-dog) and host great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and host of nieces and nephews.
