SHARON HOUSTON FASHAW

August 1, 1958 ~ January 8, 2022

Sharon Rheane Fashaw-Houston was the child of Paul and Bessie Houston (Owens), born on August 1, 1958, in Fairfield, California. She was called to rest on January 8, 2022, at the age of 63. Sharon leaves behind a great host of family, friends, and loved ones.

Sharon was raised in Vallejo, California and attended and graduated from Vallejo Senior High School in 1976. While attending college to enter the medical field as a nurse, she married Luke Fashaw, Jr. and with this union, they had four children. She then became an administrator for the former Mare Island Naval Shipyard.

Sharon relocated to San Antonio, Texas in 1991 with her four children. She became a member of Shiloh Baptist Church shortly afterwards. Sharon worked as a secretary for the Law Offices of Ronald Benson and, meanwhile, studied to become a paralegal and obtained her certification in 1992. She then began working for the Law Offices of Per Ann Hardy for several years. Upon leaving the legal field, Sharon also substituted within the San Antonio Independent School District.

After substituting, Sharon completed her Licensed Vocational Nursing Degree and began working at the State Hospital for nearly 7 years as a nursing assistant and, eventually as an operator. Sharon was then promoted to an operator position with the State within the Adult Protective Services Division of San Antonio. There she remained for over a decade and enjoyed her work there.

Sharon was a leader in many ways. She was adamant about finding solutions to issues found in the local East Side Community, as well as within the city and state. From ensuring that the neighborhood and zoning issues were addressed by the City of San Antonio, to helping to look out for the Huntleigh Park Neighborhood Association as a Block Captain, to petitioning the State of Texas to help her peers receive more fair wages for their work, Sharon did her part to care for her community.

Sharon loved family and friends. She is known for sharing recipes, words of wisdom, kind acts of service, generosity, witty humor, and taking time to make others feel special. She loved not only her own children and grandchildren, but she also took out time to care for the children and grandchildren of others. She will be well missed.

In addition to cherished memories and beloved thoughts, Sharon is survived by her two daughters, Sarah Lamkin and Deidra Fashaw; her son-in-law, Keith Lamkin, Sr., her daughter-in-law, Hannah (Sellers) Fashaw; her four siblings, Charles and Phillip Houston, Ollie Brown, and Paulette Baker; her eight grandchildren, Keith, Jr. , Shakyra, and Dionte Lamkin , Anthony and Camille Swann, Christopher Fashaw, Emiliana Sellers, and Luke Clyde Fashaw, IV (aka "Blue"); her nephew, Sean Brown, and her two nieces, Dana Brown and Brittany Baker; great nephew, Devaughn Guthrie, great niece, Lola Monroe Houston Baker; and a great host of family, loved ones, coworkers, and friends who know of her loving glow.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Bessie Houston; her two sons, Luke III and Michael Fashaw; and her sister, Aimie Hagan.

  1. So many fond memories of being on Lakeside Drive in Vallejo growing up with the Houston family two houses away. Sharon was ALWAYS so sweet and kind. I appreciate her keeping in touch and sending updates on her family. I’m sorry I never made it to see her in Texas. The McLemore family sends our heartfelt condolences and love to her family and friends.
