On August 29, 1931, in Caldwell County, Texas, Gillis and Katherine Williams welcomed a beautiful baby girl who they named Almeda Lavern. Gillis and Katherine preceded her in death.
ALMEDA attended school in Caldwell County, Texas. She graduated Carver High School in 1950. As a child, she gave her life to Christ at Ebbon Baptist Church. Later, after moving to San Antonio, she became a member of Jacobs Chapel United Methodist Church, where she remained a dedicated and faithful member of the United Methodist Women and the Courtesy Committee until her transition.
While in high school, ALMEDA met the love of her life, Jack Wilbert De Vaughn. On September 15, 1948, Jack and Almeda were happily married, and they lived and loved for 55 years until October 18, 2003 when Jack passed away. To their union, five children were born. As Jack was a member of the United States Army, Almeda was able to travel to several different states and countries with her husband before they retired in San Antonio, Texas.
ALMEDA took pride in her career as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She finished at the top of her nursing class at St. Philip’s College, after which she embarked on a 20-year nursing journey that allowed her to skillfully care for patients in the emergency department at Robert Brady Green Hospital; then babies admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Medical Center (née University) Hospital. ALMEDA took pride in her career and cared for everyone within her realm with love and concern.
Left to mourn ALMEDA’s loss, but continue her legacy are her five children: Jack, Jr., Shawnee, Kevin (Nancy), Gary, and Pawnee; thirteen grandchildren: Lynette (Trevor), Devin, Kevin, Jr. (Tela), Marcus, Jarvis (Ashley), Jeremy, Joshua, Alex (Will), Jordan, Tiana, Nia, Isha, and Eboni; seven great-grandchildren: Khaila, Adrian, Micah, Terrance, Avery, Taylor, and Kiper; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, family, and friends.
ALMEDA leaves with us all an amazing legacy of her as a warrior of faith and wisdom. She will forever be loved and remembered, and deeply missed.

Love You Aunt Meda, and will miss you so much, but our pain is strengthen by the fact your family/Uncle Jack is so glad to see you again – just as we will meet again. John 14:1-3. “In my Fathers house are many rooms. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.”
AUNT Meda was proceeded in death by 6 brothers, Worliss, Purnis, Albert, Pete, Gillis Jr, Bobby, and 3 Sisters, Jeddie, Ferris, and Selena.
We Love and Miss All of Them
