BOBBIE J. KELLEY

Bobbie Jean Kelley was born June 22, 1948 in Rock Island, Illinois and was the second oldest out of nine children to Ernest L. Jones and Mary Frances Jones.  It was an early age when she fell in love with Jesus Christ and confessed her faith and was baptized at Second Baptist Church in Rock Island.  In 1966 graduated from Rock Island High School and went on to attend Black Hawk College, where she received a nursing degree.

She met Oliver Michael Kelley at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.  Then shortly after the couple were happily married in 1981.  Together they raised their daughter Prentis “Peaches” and assisted with raising their two grandsons Johnathon and Michael.

Bobbie Jean and her family decided to settle in San Antonio, Texas in 1988.  With a passion to serve, within months she joined Macedonia Baptist Church.  She served in the women’s chorus, youth department, hospitality department, health care ministries and WMU.  She was an active Sunday school member until her health failed.

Bobbie Jean worked as a nurse at the San Antonio State Hospital for over 20 years.  She retired from there in 2012.  She was an active member of The Black Nurses Association and held the seat as secretary for some time.

She was called home on September 13, 2021.

Bobbie Jean was preceded in death by her father Ernest L. Jones and her mother Mary Frances Jones, her brothers Ernest Jones Jr. and Marty Jones and her sister Brenda Miller.

Left to celebrate her life is her husband, Oliver Michael Kelley, her daughter Prentis “Peaches” Harris, her brother William Nathaniel Jones and her sisters Marilyn Sutton, Elois (Robert) Wilson, Cheryl McQueen, Theresa (James) Jones, her Aunt Barbara Davis, her grandsons Johnathon and Michael, her nephew Rodney Davis, niece Paulette Jones and all of Camp Bobbie Jean’s Children.  Her very special sister/friends Barbara Cray and Sylvia Jackson and a host of other relatives and friends.
