On Tuesday, July 27,2021, Joyce Mae Gulley wrote her final chapter of her life on Earth, closed the door and went to her eternal home.
Joyce was born to Oliver Mae Elias and Wilson S. Jones, on April 21, 1940 in Mason, Texas. Her Mother and Father preceded her in death.
Joyce attended Edwards Elementary and graduated from Edwards High School in 1958. She continued her education by attending and graduating from Texas Southern University.
Joyce started her career as a Secretary at Riley Elementary. She also worked at Gates Elementary, with later gaining her teachers certificate and finished her teaching career at Sam Houston High School. After retiring in 1994, Joyce continued to devote her time to the education system by Substitute Teaching until 2016, and countless hours to the children who needed her love and support.
At an early age, Joyce professed a belief in Jesus Christ. Joyce was a devoted, faithful, and active member of Mt. Zion First Baptist Church until her death. In her spare time she spent many days and nights playing cards with the Alamo 7 No Bid Whist Club, San Antonio Edwards Alumni Chapter, and spending time with her close friends and family.
Joyce was truly an angel on Earth. She was a kind, loving, caring, strong mother/grandmother/ aunt/cousin, daughter, community member, and friend to countless people. Her generosity and kindness made life pleasant for everyone who knew her. Her light will shine on forever in the hearts of her family and friends.
Joyce was married to Charles A. Pulliams Jr. and Al Gulley; two children were born to these unions. Her children Sonya Y Pulliams- Burton and Al Gibran Gulley Jr. preceded her in death.
The Survivors are: granddaughter, Chelsea J. Teague; two grandsons, Brandon Burton and Gibran Gulley Jr.; 4 great grandsons, Lavelle Teague Jr., Ethan Teague, Jerimiah Burton, Dominic Martindale; 6 great granddaughters, Amari Burton, Kayla Clark, Ashtyn Burton, Zyion Burton, Kyndal Clark; aunt, Virginia Crippen; cousins, Pearly Hights, Porshia Harris, Ernestine Stovall, Carolyn Gilbert and a host of other loving relatives and friends.





I met Ms. Gulley through my Aunt/Cousin Evelyn Johnson during out Top Teens journey. She was a super supporter and her grandson AL Jibran was an active, faithful member. Her sweet spirit and words of encouragement will always be a memory…

My prayers an condolences to the family. I’ve known Mrs. Gulley all my life. At church when Sonya an I were growing up to Sam Houston High school till her passing. She was always a joy with smiles an positive talks. She will be greatly missed
