ANGEL LAVETTE MARTIN

September 16, 1970 ~ July 9, 2021

A CELEBRATION OF LIFE SERVICE WILL BE HELS FRIDAY, JULY 16, 2021 FROM 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. @ SECOND BAPTIST CHURCH, 3310 E. COMMERCE ST, SAN ANTONIO, TX 78220

Angel LaVette Martin was born September 16, 1970 in San Antonio, Texas to James Reed Baker and Royce Linda Baker. She married John Fredrick Martin, Jr. on June 17, 1995 and to this union three children were born: John Derrick “JD” Martin of San Antonio, Texas, Taylor Shannon Martin of New York City, New York, and Darius Fredrick Martin of San Antonio, Texas.

Angel dedicated her life to Christ as a young girl at Mount Zion First Baptist Church and later rededicated her service to Christ at Redeeming Grace Christian Church.  Under the guidance of Bishop Brent Bryant, her relationship with Christ was nurtured, affirmed and deepened.  She and her family have been members of Redeeming Grace for more than 15 years.

Her captivating smile reflected a woman who knew who she was and whose she was.  Her faith in God gave her the confidence to succeed in all her endeavors and served as the cornerstone of her life.  Her upbringing provided the foundation on which she built a life, a family and a career.  Finally, her love of life fueled her celebratory nature and encouraged others to live fully and enjoy each day.

Angel is remembered by her colleagues as a dynamic leader with an immense passion for business and helping others achieve their goals.  Known for her leadership, work ethic, and determination, Angel fervently used her professional success to inspire and mentor business professionals at every level. These skills, traits and abilities led to a successful career with USAA Federal Savings Bank and MasterCard serving both organizations as a Vice President.

Family and close friends enjoyed a woman with a passion for life and a sincere and positive spirit.  Her infectious laugh provided a soundtrack to every occasion and her megawatt smile served as a beacon for anyone looking for a friendly face.  She LOVED her family and friends.  Her children, father, brothers, extended family, in-laws, childhood friends, sorority sisters in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and new friends were always welcomed diversions to the day-to-day hustle and bustle.

Angel was preceded in death by her mother Royce Linda Turner Baker. She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband John and three children JD, Taylor, and Darius; her father James Reed Baker (Tommie) of San Antonio, Texas; two brothers: James Greg Baker (D’Anna) of Conyers, Georgia and Cedric Baker (Stacey) of Port St. Lucie, Florida and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
