Janie Ann Bennett was born the fifth of twelve children on February 4, 1928 in Wetmore, Texas to the union of Albert and Louise (Griffin) Winters. Her birth name of Ella Jane Winters would later be replaced by ‘Janie’, as this is what everyone customarily referred to her as; therefore, she changed it for accommodational purposes.
Janie initially aspired to become a Fashion Designer; however, being born as a Sharecropper’s daughter in the Jim Crow South limited her options. Yet she did not allow this factor to deter her from living a good life. She chose to attend Cosmetology School to become a licensed, self-employed Coiffeur where she successfully flourished, retiring after 40 years of service.
In 1965, she married the love of her life, Floyd Bennett Sr. and from this union, one daughter Greta Lagail Bennett was born. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, brother; Daniel C. Winters, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

A strong Christian, hardworking woman, and a excellent beautician. She did my hair for many, many years. Condolences to her daughter, she loved you and wanted you to have every good opportunity that was available.
