ELIZABETH MILLER MOORE

June 3, 1925 ~ November 29, 2020

Sister Elizabeth Miller Moore, a devoted and loving mother and grandmother, died at the age of 95, Sunday, November 29, 2020.  Elizabeth was the third child and only girl born to the union of Andrew and Tassie Miller in Brenham, Texas.  She had five brothers, Andrew, John T., Rufus, Cuney, and Elmer, who all preceded her in death. 

Elizabeth attended San Antonio public schools, graduating from Phyllis Wheatley High School in 1944.  She was joined in holy matrimony in 1946 for thirty-seven years with Johnnie Moore, Jr., after which the marriage was dissolved.  This union was blessed with four children:  Johnny Moore, III (deceased), Carolyn Moore (deceased), Kathryn E. Johnson and Beverly A. Towns, both of San Antonio, Texas.

For many years she was employed at Ray Lee’s Millinery Hat Shop on Houston Street.  She furthered her education by receiving her CNA from St. Philip’s.  Upon receiving her certification she was employed at the Santa Rosa Hospital for twenty-five years where she received an Employee of the Month award in 1971.  She was also a member of the Sigma Gamma Rho Society, where she was awarded  Philo of the Year in December, 1994 and November, 1995.

Elizabeth was a faithful and loyal member of Second Baptist Church for over twenty years.  She served in the Chancel Choir up until her failing health.

She leaves the surviving children and grandchildren: Kimberly Jackson, Ara Towns, Diane, Sidney and Gabriel Johnson, Johnny, IV (deceased), Jimmy Ray, Lynel Moore, Michelle Guerra, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

  2. To my family on the loss of my dear mother. I don’t know how I would have taken here death if I had not come to know why we get sick and die, but the Bible has helped me in knowing this. I look forward to seeing her again, but in the Paradise that Jesus spoke about, she will have a new body and no more sickness. Revelation 21:3,4. Matthew 6:9,10..
