DELORIES VIRGINIA STEWART

October 29, 1931 ~ October 16, 2020

Delories Virginia Stewart, 88, transitioned on October 16, 2020.  She was born October 29, 1931 in Picayune Mississippi to Lenora and Duffy Grant. Delories married Johnnie Stewart Jr., an Air Force Airman, on October 23, 1954. Their blessed marriage lasted over 66 years.

Delories Stewart was a dedicated mother and wife who loved attending church, traveling, singing, and fishing with her husband and children.  She enjoyed the holidays where she would show off her baking and cooking skills to her beloved grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Whether residing in Japan, Greece, Taiwan, or San Antonio, Tx, Delories’ love for her husband and six children (5 boys, 1 girl) was unfailing.  Perhaps her most notable skills included her ability to sing and her vast nursing skills.

Delories graduated high school from St. Peter Claver Academy in 1950.  In 1952, she completed the Licensed Vocational Nursing Program from St. Phillips College and subsequently served over 40 years in the field of nursing. She later returned to St. Phillips College where she obtained an Associate’s Degree in Health Care Administration.

Although graduating from a Catholic school, her religious denomination remained Baptist as she was a devout member of Morning Glory Baptist Church. She later joined New Hope Baptist Church where she was a member for over forty years.  She was a faithful and devoted servant who served as a deaconess and a member of the New Hope Baptist Church choir.

Delories V. Stewart leaves to her loving memory: (husband) Johnnie Stewart Jr, (daughter) Romona L. Lenzy, San Antonio Tx; Edward C. Stewart, San Antonio Tx;  Johnnie Stewart III, Beaumont Tx; Michael Stewart, Baton Rouge La; Robert L. & (wife) Mikki Stewart  Houston Tx; Dwight E. Stewart, San Antonio Tx; 18 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren
