God saw fit to call Andre Johnson home on September 22, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. One of four brothers, Andre was born to Merline Clack and Prince Albert Johnson on March 31, 1963 at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX.
After his father completed his military service in the United States Air Force, the family relocated to Detroit, MI. At a young age, Andre accepted Christ into his life and was baptized at Third New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.
Upon graduating from Mackenzie High School in 1981, Andre attended Indian Hills Community College and Cuyahoga Community College, where he played basketball. These institutions of higher learning later served as springboards for future NBA players in the mid 1980’s and ‘90’s.
After college, Andre served proudly with the Detroit Fire Department for more than a decade – ultimately leaving due to health reasons. Soon after joining the fire department, Andre married Sandra Brown. To their union, daughter Andrea Johnson was born in August of 1989.
With his commanding stature and infectious laugh, Andre’s jovial spirit was often known as the life of every party. No one was ever left unaffected by his presence.
Andre was preceded in death by his father Prince Albert Johnson and mother Merline Clack Johnson.
