Let us tell you about a warrior we call Rev. George Brown. He was a husband, dad, grandpa (Paw Paw), and brother but of all the titles he held he remained a devoted follower of Christ.
His life may seem too short to many, but those that were touched by him understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives.
Rev. Brown was a gifted angel born to Winfrey and Peggy Brown on December 1, 1947 in a small town called Eagle Lake, Texas. He was raised here in San Antonio, Texas where he graduated from Phillis Wheatley High School in 1966.
Rev. Brown accepted Christ at an early age at the St. Stephens Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. A.C. Taylor Sr. where he was ordained as a deacon. God then called him to the ministry where he became licensed on October 20, 1968. In 1970, Rev. Brown met and married the love of his life Mary Katherine. Between the years of 1979 and 1980, he served as assistant Pastor at Hosack Avenue Baptist Church and Greater Tree Mount Temple Baptist Church. The Lord blessed him again in his calling and in 1981; he became the Pastor to the Greater Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church of Seguin, TX. He serviced GPRBC for 36 ½ years until his health began to fail him and he retired. Rev. Brown was a very active person who worked with all the churches and Baptist Ministers Union of Seguin and Vicinity. He was a man about nothing but Gods word. Rev. Brown was an employee at Handy Andy grocery store for 25+ years and later worked for SAISD at Lanier High School with the Special Ed. Dept. for 18 years. Later he returned to school at the Guadalupe Baptist Theological Seminary where he received his Doctorate of Theology in June of 1999 and then went on to teach the Old Testament class at the school.
Rev. Brown is preceded in death by his parents, Winfrey Brown and Peggy Johnson along with his brother, Melvin Brown.
He leaves to cherish his love and memories his wife Mary K. Brown of 49 years. Children; Cynthia (SL) of San Antonio, Ernest Troy (Amanda) of San Antonio, Clyde (Linda) of Houston, Gwen (Tony) of Houston. One brother; Alvin Brown (Valerie), four sisters; Betty Jones, Joann McFadden, Trula Chapman, Sandra Wilson (James).10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. I will always remember my friend Rev. George Edward Brown as a man of God who truly loved the church he pastored, and who never changed his convictions and positions over the years. I will remember him as one who stood strong with a gracious spirit and had an undeniable zeal for the Word of God. Â
May you Rest In Peace, Grandpa
I was privileged to work with Mr. Brown all of his 18 years at Lanier High School . His dedication to our students with special needs was greatly admired and respected. I will always remember his kindness and generosity. He was always smiling and always available to lend an ear . When I speak of Mr. Brown it will always be with respect, admiration and love.
I remember George for his devotion to the Lanier Special Education students and co-workers. He always had a smile and was always encouraging in his spiritual manner. The good Lord has gained another soldier to watch over us.
To the Brown Family,my Family and I stand with you in prayer, praying that the God of Comfort and Strength give you all the Peace,Comfort and Strength you need  during your hour of bereavement now and in the days ahead,In Jesus Name! God Bless and keep you!
Gone from our sight but never from our hearts, I remember that Mr. Brown was always so kind and cheerful, and so sensible and professional with both our students and teachers at Lanier. It was a joy to work with him.
TOMMY CLAY
I am so sorry to hear the passing of my dear classmate from grade and Phillis Wheatley high school (66′). He was indeed a blessed man. I will always remember, even as a child he kept a smile and gave caring words to the grade school kids we were around. As I became an adults, I saw clearly how strongly he was committed to his faith. He was a Godly man.  RIP MY FRIEND, GOD IS WITH YOU. May God continue to bless your family and keep them strong.
To Mrs Mary Brown and Family we offer our deepest condolences! God’s blessings to you all!
