It is with great sadness that the family of Larry Arthur Woods announces his passing suddenly' at-the age of 67 years old on Saturday, June 22, 2019. Larry was born March 12, 1952, in San Antonio, Texas. He was the son ofthe late Arthur Woods and Jean McKinney Woods. Larry received his former education in the San Antonio Public School System. After graduating from Brackenridge High School in San Antonio, Texas, he attended Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas where he received a bachelor's degree in Physical Education and Biology and master's of science degree. Larry was probably the most-beloved teacher and coach of the North Forest 1.S. D., Fort Bend, Spring, Wilmer Hutchins and San Antonio I.S.D. school systems. Many remember him not only as a teacher and coach but also a mentor for his students or colleagues. One of his colleagues stated, "This man changed lives, and he gave kids confidence that normally would have been just pushed by the wayside." He had a strong interest and desire to work with and mold the minds of children. Larry's heart was always full of so much love and he deeply cared for his family. His family and those who knew him will miss him tremendously. He blessed the lives of many.

Brother Larry accepted Christ at an early age. After returning from Houston to his hometown of San Antonio, he became a faithful member of Wheatley Heights First Baptist Church. In his leisure, he enjoyed singing in the church choir, serving on the usher board and doing the church announcements. Brother Larry also enjoyed helping others, attending sporting events, playing sports and relaxing while watching television.

Larry will be forever remembered by his former spouses and friends Kathryn, Patricia and Reda; along with his children, one daughter LaRita Hatton (Jack) of Pearland, Texas and, 5 sons Carlton Woods of San Antonio, Texas; Larry Woods II of Houston, Texas; Mark Marks (LaTonya) of Houston, Texas; Marcus Marks of Houston, Texas; and Christopher Woods Barboza (Shannon) of Covina, California. Larry will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Raven, Joshua, Carlesha, Carlton, Carltonae, Maliyah, Joseph, Savannah and two great-grandchildren, Miliyah and Kevin. 1. My friend. My buddy, Larry!  This has hit me so hard, so furious I don’t know how to feel. But one thing I do know is God calling Larry now reminds me time is in God’s hands. Not ours. Our plans are not God’s plans. It’s God’s grace in God’s owe time! Larry is the prime example for me of its how you live, not how you die. Larry gave it all. To everyone he knew. Long term, short term. Didn’t matter. White, black, brown, yellow, purple. His love had no boundaries. I, as well as others, can say I was just with him, I just talked to him. I just saw him. That’s because he made himself available. What a Jesus like person. Larry didn’t judge no matter where you were, who you were. He gave hope to all. And I had the opportunity to know him. WOW. I know you are in heaven helping my dad again. Guiding those that are confused. Leading lost souls. Assuring that it’s going to be alright. Now for us?  What a disgrace it would be if we don’t take what Larry gave to us and not share it with the world?  Family, as great as the lost is to us, I am sure yours are greater. That void can live. Will live!! Just carry on and no God has you and God has Larry too!

  2. The years in Middle School, are the year for growth for all children. Coach Woods touched many lives while at Oak Village Middle School. His impact on the students as well as the staff was one of understanding . The greatest memory of Coach Woods was during the play “The Death Of O. D. Walker”. Anyone one who was there that  day knew he was a real protector (even for the people he did not know)’ We were  not told it was a play and Coach ran out and grabbed  one of the actors (during the play) for  disrupting a mock funeral. What a pleasure to have know this man. Praying for his love ones during time of their loss which is Heaven’s gain.

  3. Eli Bazan    from the eyes of a three year old

My grandfather/daddy and my grandmother/GiGi are writing this for me first because I am only three and I am non verbal autistic.  I know how much you have done for other people all your life however I know u r going to get a beautiful stone in your crown for what u did for me.  You were one of the first people I saw after I was born. You were as bawl as I was.  I also remember your pretty smile and joyous laugh. It made me feel safe and loved.  My mom and I did not have a place to go home to from the hospital but I heard u say “yall r coming home to my house”.  That made us so happy.  I remember when I got there it was so clean and sterile just like the hospital and all for me.  There was not allot of things there for a newborn but u went out and got me all I needed.  even  a  beautiful baby bed.  I slept in it for a very long time till one day daddy saw me crawling out of it and all of a sudden it was gone and I still don’t know why.  After being your little love one for a few months I remember hearing I was going to my grandfathers to live cause family is what I needed and u believe in family.  I saw your tears as u placed me in the car seat that day.  I didn’t understand maybe its best I did not.  I so love my daddy, GiGi and PawPaw very much and they love me.  we have allot of love in our house like at yours.  I always remember u when we see each other because of all u mean to me.  You have never missed a birthday of mine and always brought my mommy too cause she has no car. I especially remember my 3rd birthday cause u brought me a piñata for my heritage.  in your eyes you see no color separation.  I know you were sad when the Drs diagnosed me at 18months old with non verbal autisum. but u never gave up your belief that God would intervene and reverse my disorder.  u have always given me words of encouragement.
Although I still cannot talk and have all the symptoms that go with it I have learned to sign.  Today I signed to God “Coach I love u”.  Daddy is going to bring me to your services and Im going to wear my Nike shoes u gave me. I know u will like that because you and I always dress sharp.

    Forever Grateful and Love
    Eli Bazan
