Rev. James T. Smith was born September 26,1937 in Sinton, TX to the late James Smith and Alveria Wright. He received his early education and diploma in Sinton ISD. On February 20, 1961 he married the late Wanda N. Goode and to this union three daughters were born: Jacqueline Smith, Wanda "Shelly" Ward, and Pamela Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters, and daughter.
James served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1966. He also dedicated his time and skills to Southwestern Bell telephone company where he retired after 42 years of service.
Rev. Smith loved the Lord and accepted Christ at an early age. In 1975 he became a licensed minister and in 1976 he was ordained to preach the gospel all under the leadership of the late Rev. CM. Graham at Mt. Calvary B.C. in San Antonio, TX. While there, he also served as an associate minister. In 1989 he received his Bachelor of Theology from Guadalupe Theological Seminary. He pastored Zion Fair B.C. in Sinton, TX for 11 years. He served as interim pastor for six months at Greater Bethel B.C. in Floresville, TX. His latest post of duty in God's service was under the leadership of Pastor Kevin Nelson as an associate minister at Calvary B.C. in San Antonio, TX until the Lord called him home.
In 2008, James met Gloria Bacon and they were married June 19, 2010.
Those left to rejoice in their memories of him include: His wife, Gloria Smith; daughters: Wanda (James) Ward, Pamela Smith, and Karona "Kay" Bacon; son: Herbert Lynn Bacon (Ramonia); granddaughters: Veronica (Wesley) Wallace, Ashlynne Williams; grandsons: James Trellis Ward (Alicia) and Jeremiah Lee; four great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Heavenly Father, we thank you for Rev James T. Smith, a humble devoted family man, and a true man of God whose legacy lives on.
