Mr. Walter Gene Bowman was born January 11, 1943 to Louis Lee Bowman and Trudy Gaston Bowman in Palestine, Texas. Walter accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at South Union Baptist Church in Palestine, Texas.
Walter was a graduate of A.M. Story High School in 1961. He received a B. S. Degree from South West Texas State University. He joined the U. S. Air Force in 1961. He relocated to San Antonio, Texas in 1963 and united with New Light Baptist Church where he was a faithful mem6er until his death.
Walter joined the workforce as a Civil Servant for V.A. Departments of the Army and Air Force from 1964 – 1998. He was then employed by V.A. Department of Veterans Affairs in 1998 and remained a staff person until his death. Walter loved his job with the Department of Veterans Affairs where he was admired and esteemed by his fellow staffers and the veterans he served. He received various awards and salutations during his tenure with the V. A.
Walter was beloved by his family and community. He was known as an activist in his community always looking out for the needs of his friends and neighbors.
Walter was preceded in death by his mother and father; Trudy Gaston Bowman and Louis Lee Bowman; his grandparents Abner and Katie Robinson Gaston. He leaves to cherish. his memory one sister, Wilma Bowman McAlister (Johnnie), a special aunt Versie Gaston, aunts Exia Gaston Duke, Idelia Gaston Harrison and Freddie Gaston Singleton, one uncle A.B. Gaston, two special cousins; Carolyn Joyce Duke Shakir and Brenda F. Duke Douglas (Lonnie), his church family, community and a host of other relatives and friends.
