Joyce Smith

April 18, 1941 ~ February 8, 2018

Joyce Ann (Napper) Smith was born on April 18, 1941 in Amarillo, Texas to Darnell Napper and Juanita Lewis. Joyce later relocated to San Antonio, Texas where she attended school in the San Antonio Public School System.

As an adult, Joyce spent many years employed in the domestic services field for several employers. She later obtained credentials and became a Home Healthcare Provider for multiple agencies and patients. Joyce also met and married the late Mr. Farrington Smith. Farrington and Joyce were members of New Light Baptist Church until his passing in 2016. On July 2, 2017, she joined her son James “Man” Napper at St Stephens Baptist Church where she remained faithful until her passing. Her primary goal was to return to church and serve her Lord and Savior with the Usher Ministry. She was also known for her sharp style of dress complete with beautiful hats.

Joyce enjoyed good eats. She would often call her daughter, Dorothy Chance – a faithful member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor C. Victor Herbin. The call usually was a request for Church’s Chicken. She also loved outings to Golden Corral.

On February 9, 2018 the Lord decided Joyce’s journey on earth was completed. She is preceded in death by her parents Darnell Napper and Juanita Lewis, husband Farrington Smith, and daughter Caroline McVea.

Joyce leaves to cherish her memory her son James Napper, daughter Dorothy (Bernard) Chance, four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. She will be missed.
