Norma Lee Dickerson, affectionately known as "Lee, Nanny, Grandma Norma" passed away suddenly at her home on Saturday, January 27th, 2018. Norma Lee Jackson Dickerson was born December 23, 1935 to Rudolph and Rowena Jackson, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was the middle child out of 6 children, Jacqueline, Anthony (deceased) Elizabeth (deceased) Dianne and Jimmie (deceased).
Norma went to New Orleans Public Schools and continued her education obtaining her Bachelors of Arts degree from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Later, she obtained her Masters in Education from The University of New Orleans. She worked as an educator at Orleans Parish School Board at which time she retired after 30 years of service. In addition, she counseled students individually and in groups to assist in achieving personal, social, educational, and emotional adjustments to determine acceleration or remedial action.
Norma accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age at Grace United Methodist Church in New Orleans, Louisiana. During that time she served and worked in various ministries including a Sunday school teacher.
Norma has four children, Terrye (Beavercreek, OH) Marc, Kendal, and Kenric, (San Antonio, TX) of whom she loved dearly.
Norma relocated to San Antonio, Texas as a result of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. She immediately continued to use her teaching skills and experiences here working at San Antonio, I.S.D. and St. Phillip's College.
Always outgoing, optimistic, caring, and loving, her greatest love was working with children and performing puppet shows with them at her church home, Calvary Baptist Church.
She enjoyed family gatherings and cooking for her children's favorite foods for their birthdays. Holiday dinners were always at her house; which mainly consisted of New Orleans Cuisine with a Norma flare!
Left to cherish her memory are her sister Dianne (Frederick), daughter Terrye (Anthony), sons Marc (Michelle), Kendal (Tiffany), and Kenric (Cornelia), 10 grandchildren, Adrian, Marc Jr., Brandin, Kyrion, Tiffany, Kyla, Keivon, Jasmine, Cameron and Kalin, and two great granddaughters, Sanaa, Saraa, as well as a new great grandson on the way. She was also blessed with a host of nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.
