Sister Mattie Lee Brown was born February 6, 1933 to Edward and Eula Mae Douglas in Concrete, Texas. She was named Mattie Lee, but she was better known by her closes nieces and nephews and all other kids she claimed her child as "Aunt Wee Wee".
She was raised in Gonzales County, and went to school in Yoakum, Texas where she graduated from Asberry High School in 1951. She was an Alumni of the Asberry High School Reunion. She then moved to San Antonio, Texas in 1951. She later met and married Don C. Brown on January, 31, 1959. She then went to Hicks Beauty School and became employed and retired with Art's Beauty Salon in Olmos Park, TX.
Mattie accepted Jesus Christ in her life at a very early age. In 1959, she united with New Light Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. P. S. Wilkinson where she served as an Usher, Sunday School Secretary and member of various ministries. On April 4, 1997, she became charter member of New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Paul D. Stevens, Sr. where she continued to serve as an Usher and Sunday School Secretary. She was a member of Anna Circle Women's Ministry and later became member of Sarah Circle Women's Ministry. She served in several capacities in local organization, auxiliaries, and church functions.
Mattie Lee was known to always appear in the most high fashion especially in church. She has always been loving, thoughtful and always considered others that would be in need. She was known to give her last.
She lived a good Christian life and she touched so many lives with her generous spirit before her health failed and took control of her daily activities. She was so blessed to make a peaceful transition from earth to glory; she shall not suffer any more.
Mattie Lee preceds in her passing her husband Don C. Brown of 39 years, three brothers, Melvin, Edward and Clyde Douglas, four sisters, Evelyn Vemell Douglas, Lorraine Kelly, Ida Pillow, and Alma Davis, Stepdaughter, Donna Yvette Griffin. She cherish wonderful and precious memories to her niece Patricia Young (Elmo), Alayna and Robert Tre', Larry Griffin, Sr. (Jenise and Larry Griffin, Jr.) and other extended family and a host of friends who has been in her life for many years God has blessed her with.
