Barbara Ronett Frederick, 85, of San Antonio, was called home on January 8, 2018 after a long illness.
Barbara R. Frederick was born on November 3,1932 in Goliad, Texas. She was the only child born to the late Dorothy Houck and Bill Shelton.
She was educated in the Goliad Public School System. During her childhood years, Barbara was a steadfast basketball player. In addition, she excelled in grade school where she skipped the third grade.
Baptized at an early age, Barbara was a life member of Fannin Street United Methodist Church, Goliad, Texas.
In 1952, she married COL (RET) Austin Frederick of Berclair, Texas. To their union, Barbara had seven children. Throughout her husband's military career, they traveled to many stateside and overseas assignments. She was a member of the various Officer's Spouse Clubs, where she volunteered for the Ways and Mean's program in support of military personnel and their families. Barbara played an instrumental part in family readiness when her husband was deployed.
Barbara was an avid bowler where she won many tournaments and received many trophies. She could have been a professional bowler; however, she put her family's needs before her own. In addition, she enjoyed playing BINGO and having brunch with family and friends.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, and four children: sons, Raymond E. Frederick, Kevin Christopher Frederick, Delree Frederick and one daughter Fannie W. Frederick.
Barbara leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted husband of 65 years, one son: Austin (Sallie) Frederick, Jr. of San Antonio, TX; two daughters Audrey Ann Frederick of San Antonio, TX and Tammie (Walter) Smiley of Washington, DC; one brother Don Houck of Goliad, TX, seven grandchildren Austin (Natalie) Frederick III of Houston, TX, Justin Mills of lubbock, TX, Dione Frederick of Manor, TX, Brandon Mills of lubbock, TX, Tiffany Mills of lubbock, TX, Anthony Frederick of San Antonio, TX and Kaitlyn Smiley of Washington, DC, three great-grandchildren Alden and Avery Frederick of Houston, TX, Kayla Frederick of Manor, TX, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
