Jernil Allen, affectionately known as “Skipper, Skeeter, and TooKoo” was born on March 12, 1942, the first of two children born to the marriage of the late Hoyle Sommers and Justine Nichols. She attended Phillys Wheatley High School in San Antonio, Texas Jernil’s early childhood affiliations with our lord and savior Jesus Christ began at St. Luke’s Baptist Church under the late Reverend W.J. Johnson later to become a member of Palestine Missionary Baptist Church under the late Reverend L.A. Crenshaw. Jernil was employed by the Texas Department of Mental Health for over 20 years as a LVN, and Patient Care Coordinator.
Jernil was preceded in death by her father and mother, Walter and Justine Nichols and sister Doris Horn.
Jernil leaves to celebrate her homegoing, a devoted and loving husband, James S. Allen, four children, Ernest Nichols (partner, Selda Jakupovic), Laquetta Allen (partner, Alvin Sheppard), James W. Allen (spouse, Trakia Jackson-Allen), Lakeba Allen-Kiwanuka (spouse, Stewart Kiwanuka), step-daughter Sharon Allen, adopted son Kenneth Perry (spouse, Tandra Perry), five grandchildren: Eric Smith, Natasha Finklea (husband, Charles Finklea), Luke Nichols, Kayla Taylor, Kira Allen-Alvarado, LaWesley King, John King and a host of great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
